Last message on previous page: I liked crysis the first part of the game was fun because you could try to reach the objectives in different ways like sneeking or by going in guns blazing, the last bit of the game I like because it was much more action oriented, the only part that I did not like was the zero G level in the alien ship.

If you've read any of my comments on this or my quote. You've probably notice or not... I really don't like Crysis and think it's overhyped piece of something. But after all it was rated best of the best by alot of review sites. Should I get it? Only for single player campaign? Is only single play worth it? How long is it? Is it replayable? Bunch of questions I have. Alot of weapons?
You know, I've always thought Crysis is a title that people relish being extra critical towards for some reason.
In exhibit #1, we have someone that knows very little about the game and wondering if they should buy it, regardless of the fact that they already have a pre-determined conclusive opinion on the game (it sucks, they don't like it, and it's an overhyped piece of something)....so utterly strange.
Crysis was hands-down my favorite SP campaign from 2007. No offense to The Orange Box (Ep. 2 especially) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which were also among my favs. Others like COD4, BioShock, etc trailing a little futher behind. No, IMO you definitely should not play it (I like weird logic too).
A lot of people are pretty new to PC games (anyone under 30) so they don't realize the gaffs that were absent in a lot of early games. Example, MechWarrior II was a landmark game, and still is. Not so the mess of Mech Clones that came after it, all with special effects. Who cared about the plot? You have 20 or so minutes to complete your mission with no health or power-up repairs. Once you lose an arm, it is gone for good. The game is just as fun today as it was then. They actually made the game immersive. Crysis just isn't as intense from a skill standpoint as a lot of early games (I go all the way back to 80MHz systems, and all the games from there)were. Graphics and MHz don't make a game easy or hard, by the way. Ever try to finish FINAL DOOM?
I had to laugh about Final Doom, and yea the last half of final doom is totally absurd at the best of times
What are people playing before they try Crysis? To "Me" this game has just awful game play. The sights on the rifles are so bad you might as well blind fold your self and walk unarmed into battle. After an hour of trying to get used to the sights just being useless I am pretty much done with this game. The graphics are good, but come on they are not really all that, and they certainly do not make up for poor play. JFYI I have been playing Doom 3, FEAR, and Far Cry. My system is running XP (DX9), and has no problems playing it with everything on high, at least for as far as I have gotten.
Hmm, well my point was that even on a good system that can run it maxed out, you still cant play it well, because the game does not let you. You can not take your time and pick off the enemy from the out side in, you have to get in close and then try to out shoot them. Now if thats the way you play no problem, but its not how I want to play. The other games I listed (well not doom3), but all the FEAR games, and Far Cry for sure. Crysis looks good and on my system very smooth, but you have to guess where you are aiming from anything out side of rock throwing range. More like Doom I/II. This game might be good for benchmarking, or if it was like $5, but not $30+. My system: AMD Phenom 9850 @2.9Ghz, 2gig Ram at 1130mhz, Radeon 3870 @ 840mhz/1275(x2)mhz. Not the best possible, but plenty for game play at 1280x800. I found this thread and decided to add my $0.02 for those who are looking for a good FPS, and to let them know what I have experienced, and not the much over hyped BS out there.
um...did you try shooting with maximum strength on? You cant really 'pick' people off on full auto u know. Crysis shooting mechanics reminds me very strongly of bf2, so you cant have liked that either i guess?
i thought it was the most realistic feel to a shooter i had played. The aiming felt good, the reposnse to guns felt good, sights had no problem whatsoever????????. Atleast you cant get by on spraying the respawning enemis (COD4 - and People say crysis was short!). Awesome physics, fun interactivity, nice graphics. I enjoyed alot.
Also will have some very exciting mods appearing i hope, and i havnt seen a game thus far with the possibilities to extend the mulitplayer this well since Cs 1.6.

spoonboy, I have not played bf2 yet. Yes, I go prone, single shot. Shoot with max strength? No i have not, hmm what would that effect? The really odd thing is that it shoots way high. Now, I am trying to use the right click aim mode (I forget what crysis calls it). It seems that they are trying to put the bullet in the middle of the sight window with no regard to the sight. So I have to try to line up side to side with the site, but guest center top to bottom. Now that I am past the hostage the rifle has a scope with cross hairs. Now that was just when I noticed the option on the firearm. So I might of picked up that option sooner. I have never played a game where the weapons them selves get upgrades. Something new for me. This is not a big deal, I can't expect to like every game, but I found the lack of usable sites very annoying.
ah man you should try getting 2 or 3 levels further into the game, i found the later ones more fun. I guess they try and make as many uses for the suit as possible, so whatever, that means if you shoot in maximum strength mode you become soo strong that you get next to no recoil from your gun when shooting, so you can unload a whole clip with surprising accuracy. It really comes into its own if you just wanna go prone and single shot cos the gun doesn't sway around, which makes the sniper rifle thingy alot easier to use. It even helps with the rocket launcher too. You should have got a 'reflex' scope in the weapon customisation options by the stage your at (althought i think you get that at the start of the game but cant be sure), which shows you where your shot will strike, but compensating for like your characters swaying hand or the recoil from shooting previous rounds, ...something like that but it helps alot for accuracy. In that village where you have to rescue the hostage and blow up a couple of attacking tanks theres a proper sniper-rifle type scope you can stick on your ak47 or on your nifty rifle (with no ammo ever to be found for it) you start the game with. Then you can properly go around stealthily sniping people with maximum strength on and the silencer attached. Later on you pick up some better scopes aswell. At least try the next couple of levels and hunt around for goodies a bit more cos it seems youve only scratched the surface.
Just to add bf2 is similar imo because you cant just point and shoot at people, you have to fire in bursts and even then sometimes you wont hit a thing (crysis is easier though). The shooting in that can seem hit or miss but its kind of an art in itself (and makes the game more compelling cos being a good shot with anything but the sniper rifles takes alot of practice).
The game is completly beautiful. Single Player is great, but I didn't care to much about muliplayer. I can play the game on 1024x768 with all very high settings and 2xAA with the system in my sig. If you go any higher with resolution it starts to chug in spots though. This game should push the limits of hardware for a good amount of time.

pushing the limits it good for proof of concept but not when you want good sales of your product they should have sold the game for like $20-30 at most and enticed players with testing out a next gen render engine
Its already sold a million copies though. Big hit here in europe.
and yet they complained that it didnt sell enough and blamed piracy for it
and they have no hard evidence for pirate copies.
they cant monitor cracked servers.
also most users on cracked servers are legit users (they go on those servers because there generally more people on them )
they never stopped to think that hey it sold a million copies, thats pretty good considering that almost no one has the hardware to run this game properly
I think although i dont really know the figures, its sales seemed reasonably good. It hasnt sold as much as some because it is taxing on the system and alot of people had a bit of a vendetta against it lol. I think becuase people hear about it being so tough on the graphics, they assume they cant run it and dont buy it.
You know after all, it was an OK game. It did have lots of repeat playability in it. Yes it was a little short. Yes I liked FC.
There was a good mix of action from going solo to tank battles to flying an aircraft. The zero-G maps are generally viewed as pretty weak - I know I spent a lot of time early on just trying to figure out where to go - I just wanted out.
Do try it on the hardest setting, iron sights only and no cloaking. It made me think 3D and use the tops of buildings to get around.

your breathing throws off your iron sights in a big way
maximum strength helps with recoils significantly
if you are playing the game on Delta (and given that you are talking about sights i would say it is likely you are) - then you have to approach the game a lot differently than if you were playing on an easier difficulty. I think the ballistics in Crysis are really much better than anything else i have played except for Stalker real life mod.
Anyways as far as graphics go - this game looks better than really anything on the market with medium settings+high shaders and high textures I think to say the graphics are not outstanding is kinda silly. Peoples #1 complaint with Crysis has been that they cannot run it at max settings and 4x AA with perfect FPS, but given that you can run lower settings and still have a great quality visual experience I do not really see how that is an issue. The engine is a bit inefficient on the CPU side but it is designed to be longer term.
Anyways, I really think that Crysis is a pretty underrated game. But I also think that unless you are playing it on Delta then you are not going to get a truly challenging experience. Anything less than Delta just allows you to cheese the AI a bit too much of the time
