I've played quite a few good games in the last twelve months.  Bioshock was excellent (though you'll hear a ton about the DRM), World in Conflict, Crysis, The Witcher, CoD4, and Exteel (Semi-Free but hell of a lot of fun).
There's also quite a few games I haven't played yet because my past computer couldn't run them.   2008 is shaping up to be a pretty jam packed Gaming season for me.
For 2008 there is quite a few games that will shake up the Console market as they are pretty much PC only.  Then we have Blizzard's Starcraft 2 on the Horizon and I'm pretty sure this will begin the death note of the consoles as we know them.
A decent Gaming PC will cost roughly a $100.00 more to build than a Playstation 3, we have the Wii Remote that is already being ported over to the PC, Microsoft is already porting most of their 360 Items over to Vista, and then you have ReactOS that will probably be the missing niche and the Sony PS3 Savior (if they get smart).
I doubt if we ever see another console from Microsoft.  To much of a loss and really most of us would just rather them put out bitchen ass Games and Software and leave the building of the Hardware to the Gamers.
We Love our Rigs and I think Microsoft understands that.
By god man load up Warcraft 3 but don't play Uno!

I'm guessing you play WoW...

Personally I think it's stupid to pay a monthly fee.  Also I am boycotting EA since they scarred the NASCAR racing sim so badly and held onto the licensing.  There are a ton of games out there, more than I could ever pick from actually.

I've been a long time PC / Console gamer, but my console gaming days have died off.

Games bore me for the most part these days...

The only reason I console games was for Gran Turismo and for the range of final fantasy games. Good old Top Gear for Super Nintendo was always a riot, loved the megaman series etc...

I have done tons of playing PC games, primarily RTS games like Warcraft 2, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations, Ceaser, Civ 1-4 etc along with games like Space Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, X-wing vs Tie fighter, Flight Sim, Janes, F22 Lightning, Rainbow Six, Counter-Strike, Half-life 1-2, Farcry, The Sims, Sim City, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest, Ultima Online,  you name it I've probably played it...if I havent either I missed a Gem, or it wasn't worth playing.

I have wasted countless hours playing games...

Games these days I can usually play for ~2 hours before getting bored and not wanting to continue. I honeslty think it is because there is limited to no originality in games and when you have played as many as I have things start getting repetetive...so no 1 game will give me my "fix".

Lately games that are more graphical I have been inclined to play, however, if they lack creativity I get bored with the shiny graphics in a very small window of time.

I like wide-scope and diverse games. Currently I am playing Sins of a Solar Empire and Supreme Commander, with hopes for SPORE to fix my creativity and graphics needs.

So is PC gaming dead? I think gaming for me in general is pretty dead...

That being said, gaming will continue to live on amongst the younger crowds so in order to entice people to gaming you need to target that audience. Most companies like Nintendo have realized this and are really doing well. The problem with computers is that it is more expensive and harder to for parents to justify a high end gaming machine when you can buy a cheapy console.

I personally think that games like SPORE will re-ignite the PC industry, that and lower pricing for mid-range computing will definitly create some new hype.

My ideal job would be overseeing a game project from concept to production.

I personally would like to see some MMORTS games, I have some game concepts of the like that would work very well, including both the individual gameplay desired by some as well as the "team" based strategy and player command/squad concepts that allow "leaders" in the game to issue rough strategy plans to their units (other players) and then those players can comply or do something different...

Basically a game that would incorporate more massive team strategy, real-time. So something like Sins of a Solar Empire, except that you have your own ship, or you can command other players with teams of ships, or even be a privateer/smuggler and hack/steal information and technology from other factions and sell it to others. Espionage and stuff.

PC Gaming isn't dead, its just waiting for the next great idea to come along to inspire design and playability on a level that most consoles cannot maintain, and if they can, they might as well just be PCs.

My 2 cents.

while it may be true thap pc gaming is getting ready for the next big idea, that idea will never be found since it is almost impossible getting a job in the gaming field and game companies never listen to the people so new ideas never happen

?

What the hell?  If this were the case there would never be any innovation in PC games but that is demonstrably false.  If you need a list of games that broke the mold over the years I could probably muster one up, but really, I shouldn't need to.

A long time ago in a land not to far away the same was said when PS 2 was King and The Sega Console wasn't so dead.
For about $500 you can build yourself a PC with Windows that can run Crysis on Medium.  A $100.00 more and you can do Wii Remote and a Home Entertainment System including DVR.  This doesn't include the Monitor but 360 doesn't come with a Monitor either.  PC is just coming into it's own and the question isn't if "The PC Gaming is Dead." but "Who are what will become the next Sega Genesis?"

wasn't genesis the only successful system sega put out in the states? I mean Saturn never got a foothold here, and DC died out within a year.  Genesis as I recall had a good run.

When Sega Genesis and Nintendo were at their peak there was a lot of commotion that the PC Gaming was dead.  This topic of PC Gaming being dead has been around for a little over 15 years.  Sega Genesis, PlayStation 2, X-Box, and now we are here all without PC Gaming being dead.  By all acounts there shouldn't even be a PC anymore but here we are.  Even back then the PC did to much for it to be killed and now it does even more.  With Speech Recognition being ingrained into Vista, Bluetooth enabled devices, and soon SSD the PC is just going to become more ingrained into what we do and how we do it.  Can you ever see the X-box 360 or Playstation 3 doing everything your PC can do and better?  Not only that but the games that do come out on PC are usually filled with content that X-box 360 and Playstation 3 users dream about.  Then you have Starcraft 2 coming out, all the MMORPG's, and the fact that most PC titles allow players to create there very own modifications which just enriches the game even further.  When I go to a store I don't have to wade through endless streams of crappy titles to try and find that precious jewel like I would if I just had an X-box 360 or Playstation 3.  Furthermore when a PC title comes out and it is of excellent character that developer and producer are rewarded and if they put out a crappy title they are harshly punished.  Blizzard has put out quality games from the start and for it they have been rewarded unlike any other.  Further they are an all PC Gaming Company and will continue to be so.
Unlike Console Gamers, PC Gamers demand excellence.
That is the difference and that is why PC Gaming will never be dead.
It wasn't dead 15 years ago, it hasn't died between then and now, and it won't die in the near future.
PC Gaming has and always will be the future.
That's the harsh truth that Console Players just don't like to hear.
But it's the truth none the less.
