More Details Surface Regarding ASRock's Z87 Motherboards

A number of new details have surfaced regarding ASRock's upcoming Z87 motherboards, as reported by VR-Zone, and it looks like ASRock has quite a big lineup planned. This goes to show that ASRock really wants to break the one-million motherboards shipped this year milestone.

The top three models will be the Z87 Extreme11/ac, the Z87 Fatal1ty Professional, and the Z87 OC Formula/ac. The Z87 Extreme11/ac carries the wireless ac interface, an additional PCIe lane splitter, and Thunderbolt, as well as a number of features. The other Extreme series motherboards slowly cut down on the feature set and connectivity.

The OC series are aimed at overclockers. The flagship model of this series carries a wireless ac interface as well. It features stronger VRM circuity to make higher and more stable overclocks possible. The expense is that it has a little less connectivity than the Extreme11 motherboards. There will also be a micro-ATX model that is optimized for overclocking.

ASRock's Fatal1ty branding is much older and is well known among gamers and enthusiasts. The Z87 Professional motherboard is aimed at high-end gaming builds, and therefore supports three-way SLI or CrossFireX, Creative's Sound Core 3D chip, and possibly Killer networking.
