CES: Samsung claims to have developed world's largest OLED for TVs

Samsung today said that it has developed the largest single-panel active matrix-based (AM) Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display.

At 21"es, the OLED oferrs WUXGA resolution with 6.22 million. The display features a brightness of 400 nit, a contrast ratio of 5000:1, color gamut of 75 percent and "fast" response times for HD video applications, according to Samsung.

The OLED is based on Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) technology, which the firm first demonstrated in August with a 2.6" display for mobile devices. The technology can be mass-produced within existing TFT-LCD lines and be used for large-sized OLED panels in 4th and 5th generation production lines, the firm said. (THG)
