Crytek: Crysis 2 Will Have Best Game AI Ever

By - Source: Tom's Hardware US

Virtual enemies will be "thinking, fair" foes when they blast off your head.

In a recent interview, Crytek boss Cervat Yerli promised that AI in the upcoming game Crysis 2 will be the best, most sophisticated seen in video game history. Although we've heard this plenty of times before from developers in the past, Yerli said that players will have "thinking," fair" foes. We'll believe it when we see it.

"We have the most advanced AI system in a game," Yerli said. "We think that Crysis 2 has the most advanced AI for both humans and aliens you've ever seen. They will be showing tactical co-ordination, they will be more challenging but not unfair--they will be truly intelligent, thinking, fair enemies."

He also indicated that gamers will enter a new realm of gameplay thanks to the almost-Skynet-like artificial decision making.

"I think from that perspective our gameplay experience will be very unique because on one hand you have a world that allows freedom, on the second hand a hero that allows freedom--but also an enemy that adapts to freedom and provides you constant challenge no matter what you do," he said.

Crysis 2 certainly "wowed" us back at E3 2010. Sounds like the game will truly blow our socks off when it hits stores this holiday season.

Does it also apply to friendly AIs?

(What's with all the "FAIR" War isn't supposed to be Fair )[/citation]

Unfair is when you snipe a guard from 600 yards and the guy standing next to him fires his pistol from the hip drilling you right between the eyes with his first shot :)

Sounds good. I presume AI 'make' dynamic decisions, constantly reassessing their situation with elements of randomness. One of my favourite AIs is still the original FEAR. You think you have the upper hand sneaking around them, but sometimes they take a different route and even change their strategies when you reload from a save. Not something you can sit back and plough your way through.

It's about time someone made aliens think like aliens are supposed to.

"We'll believe it when we see it."

    I agree on that statement.

I remember FarCry2's promisses about the AI and gameplay acheivements... felt pretty unfinished to me with the lack of story lack of proper ending and none stop identical gameplay that gets boring real fast.

Then again, this isn't FarCry2, I hope they do a good job.

We have all been here before. As soon as a developer starts making statements about how advanced and outstanding their new game is, we can all pretty much assume that everything will be a massive let down. I am predicting disappointing graphics for the PC, free spawning and predictable enemies and an overall feeling of 'Meh'.

well, will the enemies still be able to see and shoot you from a mile+ away (thinking about the boats with guns from the first one)

Be nice to see an MMORPG with AI mobs that make things tougher, all MMORPG's are far too easy to reach end-game and that takes the fun out of it.
