Crytek: No Crysis 2 This Year

Next news
4:11 PM - July 28, 2009 by Kevin Parrish

Sorry, no Crysis 2 for you this year.

A post over on Crytek's official modding forum reveals that the company does not anticipate a release of Crysis 2 this year, reporting that Crytek currently has no official ship date schedule despite the game's estimated October 30 release. Serving as the first title built upon Crytek's new CryEngine 3 (and the developer's first console game), the game will appear on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 when it eventually hits retail shelves.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli back in June. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

Expect additional details to become available towards the end of the year.

Great, now "But will it run Crysis?" questions for old consoles.

Well, Crysis Warhead was a step "back" from Crysis, just "optimizing" (actually toning down) the original graphics from Crysis.

Crysis... DX10 and Vista.. 3 things that need eachother to be the best Game out there.. yet.. each one cancels the other out... thanks..

I wonder if the PC version will run on DX11? I hope other game Developers make games with Cryengine 3 like a WWII game or modern Combat.

warhead has better graphics than crysis and runs at the same fps, meaning it IS better optimized. maybe u should play both before commenting.

Same graphics same engine better FPS, maybe you should play both games before commenting.

Crysis had amazing graphics and the gameplay had HIGH potential but they got to wrapped up in the graphics to give it a good story better weapons and alot of other things it needed. Hopefully this one will be better.

Wow a sequel to a mediocre shooter. Is it the norm lately, cause Bungie has been doing that alot too?

ummm. to be clear, i find it very hard to believe that it will be able to look better than - or even as good as - crysis AND run on the consoles. my 8800gt struggles with it, and it has 5 to 10 TIMES the fill rate of the console gfx cards, i mean im fairly confident there are ALOT of optimizations that can be made to the original crysis tech, but i still think it will be a bit much.

i'm actually very interested to see how this all works out. will the successors to the most technically advanced/demanding PC game (EVARRR!!) turn out to be some crappy console port?

I'm not too worried, give them the time they need to make this game great.

DX11 is meant to work better and more effectivly with the PC hardware over DX10. So I for one WANT to see it in DX11 instead of 10!

damit... why do the consoles get to have our awesome game Crysis but we get shity console ports like halo, shadowrun, dead space, ect...

oh well, im sure theyre gonna have to turn some quality levels down on those ancient consoles

I don't want to see Crysis 2 until the REAL nmext-gen CryEngine is finished. The current CryEngine 3 is CryEngine 2 optimized for consoles. So, what is the name for the real next-gen engine anyway?
I'm guessing I'll see this in late 2011/2012.

I was happy with the original. My rig runs it on high 1680x1050 (noAA) pretty smoothly, and it still looks better then any game out there imo.

This is just one of those games that I can't get enough of the single player. There are so many different approaches, and different attack combination. Can't wait for Crysis 2.

1+^ agree with you. the game has soooo many differant tactical approaches to tackle. beaten the game about 4 1/2 times now. (i run the same settings btw)

overall, i thought the gameplay was much similar (but more advanced) to stalker's style of combat. curious to know whats going to be in crysis 2

I prefered old crysis to crysis warhead. It is a much more cerebral game. While L4D style of shooters are cool, crysis was and is very good. I own crysis legally, great game, dazzling graphics.

Now, if they want to port the to Xbox or PS3, they should include some kind of software and infiniband addons. You will really need to cluster them to play nicely.

Good. Maybe they'll actually spend the time to write efficient code and see if they can add something called gameplay too.

It is held back because they are trying to figure out how to make even more draconian DRM than was in the first one. They will also probably write it for the kiddie consoles first then have some crap port to the PC (remember Deus Ex, the invisable war piece of crap port), thus killing the game for any serious gamer faster than their freaking DRM.

Yeah everyone complaining about the new Cryengine needs to calm down and realize that it is a dumbed down version of its previous incarnation in order to be playable on consoles. No new rig will be needed for the next yawn factory. Poor PC Gaming, Rage is going to be a console port as well :(

At least Crysis was almost bug-free compared to other games with good stories and gameplay but the reviewer usually writes "if you could look past the bugs, this is actually a good game".

yahh, crysis was surprisingly unbuggy compared to most games out today (stalker CS for instance)
