Fujitsu today announced plans to build its second 300mm wafer fab in Mie, central Japan. The addition to an existing 90nm plant will produce 65nm semiconductors and become operational in July 2007, Fujitsu said.

The new factory capacity is projected to reach about 25,000 wafers per month and will cost about $1.05 billion. The sister fab currently produces 90 nm semiconductors on about 15,000 wafers per month.

The company did not say, which specific semiconductors it plans to manufacture in the new plant.
