Gift Card App Wrapp Preparing for UK Launch

You've probably never heard of Wrapp, the gift card service that allows you to send digital gift cards from your favourite shops straight to your friends' phones, but you probably will soon -- the company is planning an aggressive expansion that will see it spread beyond its native Sweden, and the first stop is the United Kingdom.

For those not in the know, Wrapp is a service that lets you send digital gift cards from major retailers. The idea is that you can easily send a gift card to a friend, who will receive that gift on their phone and can then hit up their favourite store (either online or in person) and use the card to pick out something they like. Mutual friends can also contribute to the gift card for up to seven days after delivery in order to make the value bigger or more significant. Retailers will offer both free and paid gift cards, with a limited number of the former being offered each day.

Wrapp has been available in Sweden for a while now, and was planning expansions into additional markets. However, the arrival of a competitor has meant Wrapp is speeding things up. The service is today arriving in the UK and will hit the United States in the near future.

"We’ve enjoyed good results with Wrapp in Sweden, so being part of Wrapp’s start in the U.K. was a natural next step," said Clas Ohlson U.K. Managing Director Mark Gregory. "We’ve been using Wrapp in Sweden to reward our loyal customers as well as promoting new store openings. Customers enjoy giving their friends free gift cards and they appreciate the convenience of using their phones to redeem them."

Wrapp lists ASOS, Coast, Oasis, Warehouse, Caratime, Clas Ohlson, Fitness First, iSUBSCRiBE, Karen Millen, Pizza Express, Rosetta Stone, and Theater Tokens as launch partners.

Wrapp is available for both Android and iOS devices.
