InFocus revealed the second generation of its Mondopad "wall tablet," a 55-inch touch-capable HD display packed with its own integrated PC and dual-band Wireless N connectivity. It's ideal for businesses and educational institutions, but given that it's based on an Intel Core i5-2520M CPU and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, it should make for one heck of a wall-mounted gaming rig.
According to InFocus, the Mondopad now sports a thinner bezel allowing for a wider touch area and improved sensitivity across the display's 55-inch surface. The company has also improved the overall touch experience, enabling five simultaneous inputs -- up from the previous model's two inputs -- and updating application compatibility across current and future software releases.
"InFocus has doubled the amount of optical touch sensors in the new Mondopad from two to four, which makes for smoother, quicker and cleaner recognition of touches, gestures and handwriting for one or multiple users," the company said. "The device comes standard with a solid-state hard drive that operates faster and more reliably than magnetic drives."
As for hardware specifics, the Mondopad is packed with the Intel Core i5-2520M CPU, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, and a dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n MIMO PCIe half mini card with AMT support. The PC component also provides six USB ports (four on the display, two on the actual PC), and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. A full 32-bit version of Microsoft Office 2010 Suite is provided in addition to Windows 7 Pro.
"The Mondopad also features the company’s recently released version 1.6 software, which allows for annotation in more places and gives users the ability to seamlessly switch between the Mondopad software and third-party applications," the company said. "The software also allows for the customization of whiteboard backgrounds and gives administrators the option to require domain logins for increased security."
The display itself features a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, a response time of 8ms GTG, and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It supports 1.07 billion colors, but only 89-degree viewing angles both horizontally and vertically. Under the display is a sound bar with a frequency response of 90 Hz to 20 KHz, and on top is a 1.2MP camera with four built-in unidirectional microphones and an autofocus lens, perfect for conferencing. The display is also loaded with input/output connectivity such as two HDMI 1.3 ports, VGA, S-Video, Component jacks, Composite jacks and more.

Training is available immediately as well, with a two-hour session priced at $599 and a four-hour session at $899.
