Industry Publications Hint At Toshiba Dropping HD DVD
Source: Tom's Hardware US – Category : Miscellaneous 0 comment
Hollywood (CA) - Toshiba may be ready to pull out of HD DVD, effectively putting an end to the format, according to various trade publications.
Home Media Magazine and The Hollywood Reporter both cite "reliable industry sources" as saying that Toshiba will pull out of HD DVD, after a huge multi-year investment in helping create and support it.
Though HD DVD has seen a series of blows over the past several months, the last month has been especially bad. Warner Bros and all its sister studios pledged exclusive Blu-ray support, and then killer blows were dealt earlier this month when Netflix and Best Buy both announced intentions to drop HD DVD support.
"It would be a matter of weeks" before an announcement is made from Toshiba, quotes Home Media Magazine from an unnamed source. Nothing has been confirmed yet, though.
