Nokia's Got A UK Event At 9am Today

Nokia may still be riding the high of its Lumia 1020 announcement but the company isn't resting on its laurels. The Finnish smartphone manufacturer on Monday announced that it is to host an event at 9am on Tuesday morning in London.

The invitation offered no hints as to what we can expect from the event, but promised us it would be big. Given the late notice (and lack of build up), we imagine it's nothing close to as big as the Lumia 1020. That said, anything is something, and rumor has it we could see the Nokia Lumia 625. Engadget points to Finnish publication Puhelinvertailu, which yesterday posted leaked specs for the 625. According to the site, we can look forward to a 4.7-inch IPS WVGA (800 x 480) LCD with Gorilla Glass, a 1.2-GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 4.0, support for LTE and a 2,000mAh battery. The device is, of course, a Windows Phone handset.

Other than that, we don't know much else. If Tuesday's event is the Lumia 625 (and only the 625), we'll be a tad disappointed. After all, Nokia promised "something BIG." We'll find out soon enough! Stay tuned!

It will be just another variation of 1020 probably a 64 GB variant? Maybe a bit larger battery?

Apart from the Ativ S, which is 4.8"

Confirmed, it's the 625, still not as good as the Ativ S and that is a 10 month old phone with the same hardware as a 14 month old phone. The flagship phones are good, but this is midrange at best now and certainly not worthy of a press event. I really hoped it would be all about a Nokia Tablet.

Right, this is a new low end device... but it is a low end device with a big screen while keeping it's low end price. This is probably not going to be a big seller in the US, but it may well be a big deal in other parts of the world where people want a large cheap phone which doubles as a media playback device. In the very least it will be an interesting device.

I have no doubt it will be popular and sell relatively well, but a big press conference? If I was an attending press staffer I would be angry at having my time wasted.

Yup, my 2011 mid-end device (,xperia u) has just about those same specs. Dual core a9's, 512MB ram, 5 mp camera. I mean they could all be slightly better versions, but most of it is very similar.

Why everyone seems to be on 625?
It is the journalist assumption, but maybe Nokia will finally show something really big as a tablet.
It's been a while since we hear about it, and it could be a lot of other things. Nokia have a big R&D department, they have the capability to get something bigger than a low-end phone, so I guess the best is to wait and see, isn't it?
