Obama Applauds Apple, Intel For U.S. Manufacturing Jobs
President stresses importance of creating jobs within America.
United States President Barack Obama has commended both Apple and Intel for creating jobs within the country.
One of Obama's policy points during his State of the Union speech stressed that U.S. companies need to create jobs in America. "Our first priority is making America a magnet for new jobs and manufacturing. After shedding jobs for more than 10 years, our manufacturers have added about 500,000 jobs over the past three," Obama said.
"Caterpillar is bringing jobs back from Japan. Ford is bringing jobs back from Mexico. After locating plants in other countries like China, Intel is opening its most advanced plant right here at home. And this year, Apple will start making Macs in America again."
Sitting in the audience next to with Michelle Obama was Apple CEO Tim Cook. He had confirmed in December 2012 that Apple will move some Mac production to the U.S, with the firm subsequently spending $100 million to do so. Apple is reportedly creating a refreshed lineup of its Mac Pro this year. It'll stop selling its Mac Pros in Europe as of March 1, as the old model doesn't meet new regulatory standards in that region.
Chip manufacturer Intel has also increased its efforts pertaining to U.S. production over the past year through building a manufacturing plant in Arizona. The building is expected to produce the firm's next generation of processors built on its 14-nanometer technology, with Intel stating that over $5 billion will be invested into the facility itself. Obama had visited the plant during January 2013.
"It's not a bigger government we need, but a smarter government that sets priorities and invests in broad-based growth," Obama added during his State of the Union speech.
Apple hasn't had any Jobs in the U.S. since Steve died.
Like Buick, it's considered a luxury brand in China - Kudos to American cars having Mercedes/BMW status there
wow, trolling a bit much there buddy
Why? Match or beat the competition, if you can't quit moaning. It's not the company's fault east Asia is better for business.
And the corporations rather have your voluntary 5% to get another 10% profit by still doing it elsewhere.
Indeed, doing mass product on US is generally much more expensive than China. Salary, resources, taxes, you name it. Also, they'd have no problems with planet loving lunatics. In China, they pretty much dump their waste anywhere and nobody cares. Look at Shanghai's air!! Jesus Christ! And people live there?
So, even if they did made it to homeland, I don't think it's gonna be huge part of their entire operations. Not as big as it was on China, at least.
Still, too many unemployed people, too few job opportunities. Even with them who already has a job, they still can get their ass kicked if the company said so, regardless of their loyalty and their contribution.
Welcome to capitalism.
U beat me too it.
They're just building a factory over there to save on shipping and import fees. Similar to how Nissan, Mercedes, VW, and Hyundai all have US based plants. It does not mean jobs will be lost.
As for the in-sourcing, I don't really care which company it is. I don't really like Apple at all, but they might as well do as much business as they can in the US. The draw of overseas manufacturing was that these places had little in way of laws concerning working hours, pay, or rights. As that is changing over there, over here in the US seems more attractive because of the better infrastructure and ease of shipping out to other markets. Very few, if any, of these companies are doing this to be patriotic or anything like that. It's just a matter of business costs and growth potential. As noted months ago when the Apple bringing jobs o the US was announced, it was said to be one of their iMac line, which has been treading water and Apple has previously suggested was on the way out anyway.
And it turns out, in fact, that Jeep Production Isn’t Moving to China
Unless, of course, you want to argue with the chief executive of Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne.
You didn't get my point...
I'd rather pay slightly higher costs if it means Americans get jobs.
tards already get paid minium wage to work at crapple. They're called "The Geniuses"
Apple hasn't had any Jobs in the U.S. since Steve died.
Would be cool and all with your +500,00 manufacturing jobs gained except for the fact that since you've been in office we are still down -600,000 manufacturing jobs. Yet... Because of media and to many peoples inability to actually do a tiny bit of research. We believe these things jump on your bandwagon. *sigh*.
Here's part of my reading.

For instance, Obama campaigned on not detaining prisoners indefinetly. Then subsequently on not detaining US citizens without trial. In reality he pushed for a bill that gives the president the power to detain US citizens indefinetly without trial. Then just recently he has asked for the power to kill US citizens without a trial.
Now we move onto his speech where he said a smaller and smarter government is the best coarse of action. Yet he is the one who pushed the government deficits to over $1 trillion and is fighting to vehemently to get that deficit to $2 trillion while taxing the hell out of everyone.
BTW this is more good news for Right to Work states where it is not mandatory to join a union if your plant is under a union. Manufacturing has been growing in Right to Work states, and many of them enjoy higher wages than union plants. However, if you are in that blue section of the country these new jobs are not coming your way. They are going to places where the company does not have to deal with unions.
And? China is a new market that is also 1000s of miles away from any of their current factories because of a thing called a ocean.
Far better to build factories in China if you are going to sell those products in China.
