PS3 FW 3.30 Live, Preps Consoles for 3D Gaming
It's the update we've all been waiting for . . . Kind of.
Back in February, there were rumors that Sony would be releasing a 3D firmware update for the PS3 console. John Koller, the director of hardware marketing for SCEA said Sony would release the update, "this summer" turning the PlayStation 3 into a "a fully-fledged, stereoscopic 3D-capable games platform."
Last night Sony's Eric Lempel announced that the company was releasing PS3 3.30 and detailed that the update preps consoles for 3D gaming. The update consists mainly of enhancements for trophies but it's Lempel's mention of 3D gaming that has everyone talking.
"This update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs," Mr. Lempel wrote.
Sony's 3D BRAVIA TVs are expected to hit this summer so it doesn't really tell us anymore about a release date but it's nice to know things are moving in that direction.

Actually no linux at all...
Actually no linux at all...
I assume the glasses would be bluetooth and would work wirelessly. USB ports would only be used for charging.
Unless it's only used in Blu-Ray movies... And here we go, Sony forgeting once again that the PS3 should be a gaming machine.
Computers were made only for computing back then, guess we should have left it as just that as well. If the PS3 had it's Blu-ray player locked, I'm sure many people would feel ripped off.
Another note, I guess we'll be seeing HDMI 1.5 hitting the streets before they can relese 3D 4K2K TVs.
stop whining like a child. what's wrong in doing more that just gaming? that's why I bought the PS3 for in the first place! Blu-ray and music/movie streaming from my PC to my hi-fi system. Last time I checked, the PS3 was an entertainment system.
