Gearbox's Borderlands 2 Has Gone Gold

Gearbox Software CEO and President Randy Pitchford announced via Twitter that Borderlands 2 has gone gold, or rather, the game is complete and has been shipped off to disc manufacturing. The upcoming "space western" FPS-RPG is slated to arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC on September 18, followed by a European release on September 21.

"Borderlands 2 is now GOLD (360, PS3 EU, PS3 NA, Win PC)! PSN, PS3 JP + others imminent. Official statement to come when all ballots are in," Pitchford reports.

2K Games announced back in July that gamers can now pre-purchase the digital version, although don't expect to jump into the game until it hits retails shelves on September 18. Just like the physical version, digital pre-orders of Borderlands 2 come with access to the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, featuring a free download of the Gearbox Gun Pack, a Golden Key, the Vault Hunter’s Relic and an all-new fifth character class - the Mechromancer.

"The Gearbox Gun Pack is a collection of unique guns to help players begin their journey on Pandora," 2K Games said back in May. "The Golden Key is used to unlock a rare in-game item in the mysterious Golden Sanctuary Loot Chest found in Borderlands 2. The Vault Hunter’s Relic is an in-game item that boosts players’ gear-hunting fortune while playing solo or teaming up with friends. The Mechromancer character class will be available following launch when development of the character is complete and is free to those who pre-order Borderlands 2, and will be available for purchase for those who do not."

In May, the company revealed that fans will be able to purchase two limited editions for all three platforms: the Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector’s Edition and the Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition. Here's the pricing and contents of each:

Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector's Edition ($99.99)
* A copy of Borderlands 2
* Authentic Marcus Kincaid bobblehead
* Inside the Vault: The Art & Design of Borderlands 2 hardbound book
* Collectable sticker set; map of Pandora
* Digital comic download code
* Bonus downloadable in-game digital content

Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition ($149.99)
* All Collector's Edition items
* A collectable scaled replica of the red loot chests found throughout Pandora in Borderlands 2 steel book case
* Creatures of Pandora wide-format ID chart
* Lithograph postcard set
* Field notes from Sir Hammerlock
* Cloth map of Pandora
* A numbered certificate of authenticity

"Borderlands 2 features all-new characters; skills; imaginative, diverse new environments with unique missions and enemies; and more exciting and fun weapons, equipment and loot than ever before," 2K Games said. "All of these features come together in a story that takes players to the world of Pandora to take down the notorious Handsome Jack and his corrupt Hyperion Corporation as a solo campaign or with up to four cooperative players."

Borderlands 2 will be available in North America on September 18, 2012, and internationally on September 21, 2012.

    I hope this won't be too much of a console port on the pc... especially the auto-aiming, and the clunky controls... nor the insanely "customizable" graphics settings... I want something that is more than barely playable.

    soldier37I will be too busy playing the new BF3 maps (Armored Kill) to worry about this game. But not too busy to post on a forum about it.

    I thought Borderlands was going to be great based on the reviews, but about 2 hours into the game, I uninstalled it. Borderlands was a really boring game imho. I did play solo so maybe that's why it sucked.

    Not counting on this one being any better than the first.

Also the game was kind of bland before you got into the DLCs that's when the game became great. BL2 will be better then the first.

    borderlands was one of the funniest games i ever play, i love fps, chaotic ones, where you resist many hit but you are really outnumbered and outgunned, also i love loot bonanza like diablo 2, and leveling and gaining skills from playing its really cool, and gaining talents like wow??? man borderlands seems to be made just for me! i just wish that it was "moddable" so people can add much more enemies that respawn!! guys you gotta love this game! it has everything that can generate an addiction packed into a single game!
