Sun Announces New T2 Sparc Enterprise Servers
Sun and Fujitsu announced two new enterprise servers based on UltraSparc T2 processors. The T5140 and T5240 models are promised to provide up to three times more performance than competitive RISC systems in half the space.
Both the 5140 and 5240 can carry two four-, six-, or eight-core T2 processors, however, the 5240 can be equipped with twice the memory that is supported by the 5140 (128 GB instead of 64 GB). Prices for the servers range from about $15,000 to $63,000, excluding installation support.
