Samsung Confirms Galaxy Note 2 Announcement for August

By - Source: Reuters

Just a few weeks before Samsung's newest device makes its debut.

Samsung's Galaxy Note (pictured) is a big phone, but it's also proved pretty popular in the 10ish months it's been available. For the last few weeks, we've been rumors that Samsung was preparing to announce a new version of the Note this month and it seems those rumors were true. Samsung this week revealed that we would indeed be seeing the new Note at the end of this month.

Reuters reports that the South Korean company will unveil the creatively-named Galaxy Note 2 on August 29 at its Samsung Mobile Unpacked event. Speaking to the news outlet a Samsung spokesperson said: "We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29.

The Unpacked event will take place two days before the opening of tech trade-show IFA and it won't be the first time we've seen Samsung use an Unpacked event to debut new hardware. The company took the wraps off of the Galaxy SIII at its Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 event in London this past May.

Though details on the Note 2 are slim on the ground, we do know it will have a faster processor. There's also talk of a bigger screen, but we're not sure you can go bigger than 5.3 inches (the current Note) without entering Galaxy Tab territory. Still, we'll keep you posted on any rumors we hear and we'll see you back here on August 29!

Read the article before commenting. It states 10ish months. Most phones get updated every 10-12 months, just like the iPhone, galaxy line, etc.

This is the one thing I love about Android is that new phones come frequently in all sizes and choices, whereas with Apple, you only have one choice, with only one new phone a year. It you don't like the small phone or it is uncomfortable to hold, or left handed, where they still don't give an option to unlock the phone from right to left (Seriously Apple!); there is always next year to wait for.

As long as the phone comes out with a good screen. If rumors of a 720p screen are true, I'm going to hurt a samsung exec.

I am feeling the same as you. Major reason leaving Apple behind after 3gs.
It's the same freaking phone over and over and over again, do you guys not tire of it? "Same" hardware and "same" software.

Following is my gf's reaction going from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, "OMG, yes brand new phone... 2 days later and then she realizes it's exactly the 'same' phone".
She got bored after 2 days with iPhone 4S, she's looking at Galaxy Note or Note 2 as a PDA that can make phone calls.

I love my Galaxy Note. Can't go back to smaller phones anymore.. man.. I just recently bought the 5000mAh battery for my note. Hopefully, it will work with the Galaxy Note 2 too :(

wtb a train in plan.. just got my Note 3 months a go Q_Q

this new one better come with android 4.1, quad cpu with 200mhz bump over the S3, 2GB ram and HD screen.

One more thing that I would love is duel micro USB input, thats right, DUEL, as in two, reason is.. I want to connect:
    1) power source cable
    2) HDMI output
    3) trio (3) usb input for mouse\keyboard\disk on key
and a good stand wont be a bad addition either, and possible a case with a keyboard.

yes, its a convertible mini laptop phone tablet ish thing\device, and it kicks aaaaasssss

I repeat, the current note is perfect. Any bigger it would not fit my pockets. Gorilla glass would be a nice touch.

If this were coming to AT&T in the next few months I'd almost certainly upgrade to it. I don't understand the whole "If the screen is only 720p it's BS" attitude...it has just about the same pixel density as my Atrix 4G and (presumably) isn't a Pentile display, and I've never felt the need for a sharper screen on my current phone. I also don't get the whole "only losers use big cellphones" argument...if you're talking on a smartphone, any smartphone, you have a freaking computer smooshed up against your face! That kind of makes all of us losers. :-P

    Nice !

I would go smaller on the phone size keeping the screen size the same. Also thinner would be nice and a little bendy !
    4-core tegra 3 or equivalent.
    ICS
The stylus needs to be more accurate. The current Galaxy Note can be used for notes, but not for journaling because there is slight lack of precision between the point where you put the tip of the pen and where the drawing starts. There is also no way to calibrate it.

    We also need NFC

I hope they make the next one 6 inches, I want to see how Samsung gradually gets people to hold a 15" monitor to the side of their head to make calls on

Seriously, who cares? No specs are even listed. It's an Android phone, so that means no one will buy it anyway, and they will "ship" a million (not "sell") to boost mobile and cricket and give them away for free in two months.

    How is this news?

sheeple troll, please don't show off your ignorance......

and if you are really interested in the specs, check this website:
    www.mobilenapps.com/articles/3208/20120721/galaxy-note-2-rumors-specs-quad-core.htm

no wonder readers at this website complain about the lack of quality in the news, a simple search and the article would have been more complete..... at least is not 5 days behind.

The Galaxy Note is too easy to be confused as the iPhone. They look exactly alike! They shouldn't put such products on the market which fools people.

Would love to care, BUT, Verizon doesn't offer this phone, and PLUS, well, they decided to become a "booger" (putting it nicely) recently about subsidized phones and our grandfathered unlimited plans. Otherwise, I think this would be the PERFECT phone for me.

Screen size is perfect, but may they figure out how to make overall dimensions slightly smaller.

Belardo, perhaps you are just too easily fooled? The Galaxy Note resembles the iPhone like an Austin Mini resembles my Dodge Grand Caravan; they both have four wheels, windows, passenger compartments, and the obvious copy, a rear gate! Forget the extra space for 7 passengers, the fold away seating, 135 horsepower, stability and traction control and my van could easily be mistaken for a mini... is that why they call it a minivan? Maybe they should call it an iNote? that's about the only way you could feel me into thinking it's an apple product, and I think that's true for most people.
