Scythe Intros CPU Cooler with 'Hayabusa' Fan

By - Source: Guru3D | B 13 comments

Scythe, maker of high-end cooling hardware has released a new CPU cooler, the Ashura.

The Scythe Ashura comes with a fan that they call a 'Hayabusa' fan. This fan will operate from as low as 300 RPM up to 1300 RPM. It measures 140 by 140mm, and has noise levels ranging from 13.0 to 30.7 dBA. It also pushes from 37.37 to 97.18 CFM and the fan is PWM controlled.

The heatsink weighs in at 750 grams and is built using six 6mm copper heatpipes. The unit also has support for an additional 140mm fan using the shipped bracket.

Scythe's new Ashura CPU cooler will fit on all common CPU sockets including Intel's LGA 1155, LGA 1156, LGA 1366, LGA 2011, along with AMD's AM2, AM3, AM3+, FM1 and FM2 sockets.

The Ashura CPU cooler will go on sale starting February 6th and has an MSRP of $55.

I wonder what's special about considering the ever saturated CPU cooler market...

Kinda looks like your run of the mill cooler...

The fan, however, is not. From the looks of the fan, they designed it so it would be able to mounted in a 12cm location while being a 14cm fan. This is like the new case fan by Prolimach which is also designed to mount in a 12cm location while being a 14cm fan (and the Prolimach fan is 15mm think instead of the standard 25mm).

I agree with you about the fan being different. Low RPM means quieter in operation. I currently have a massive heatsink for my CPU which I think it's overkill so this new heatsink would do just nicely.

Can you even buy Scythe in the USA, again? Their USA subsidiary folded, last year, and their stuff became really scarce. :(

Luckily, I still managed to find a Big Shuriken II in December - one of the best down-draft coolers out there.

fan looks good, lots of fan blades and a small inner section should allow some good airflow without much noise.

I believe Noctura also has a fan mount capable of doing that...

It would be nice if the article discussed the fan's stated performance in relation to others of its class, instead of just listing stats, for those of us who aren't up to speed on our CFM's and dBA's

Thanks. Their pricing looks pretty competitive, too.

Do they import, themselves? Or does Scythe have a new US distributor?
