Tight supply for 17" LCD monitor panels by mid-August - sources

The supply of 17" LCD monitor panels is expected to become tight during the middle of August at the soonest, according to industry sources. LCD panel makers such as HannStar Display, Quanta Display, Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and Beijing BOE Optoelectronics Technology (BOE OT) have all reduced production of 17" panels and shifted most of their capacity to the 19" and larger or widescreen segments as prices because prices for the 17" segment has dropped below production costs, the sources indicated.
