San Francisco (CA) - Around 250 million Yahoo users are about to effected by the free-for-all OpenID standard, allowing them to log into other complying websites with their Yahoo ID.

The service will be available in a public beta form beginning January 30. "OpenID is an open technology standard that solves all of these problems. The OpenID technology will allow you to use your Yahoo! account to sign in to hundreds of web sites! And this list is growing every day," said Yahoo on its website.

Users who add OpenID capability to their Yahoo account will specify on another applicable account-based site that they want to log in with Yahoo credentials, and voila. The public beta will be available at openid.yahoo.com starting at the end of the month.
