Apple Announces October 22 Event: New iPads Expected
New iPads in time for the holiday shopping season?
At the end of last week, word got out that Apple was planning an event for October 22. Though Apple didn't provide any comment on those reports when they first appeared online, the company today sent out invitations to an event in San Francisco.
This event is at Apple's usual Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater and will kick off at 10 a.m. Pacific. For those on the East Coast that will be watching the live blogs, that's 1 p.m.
Rumors for next week's event include new iPads and a good look at OS X Mavericks, which hit Gold Master earlier this month but has yet to receive a release date. Both the fifth iteration of the full-size iPad as well as a second-generation iPad mini are expected to be unveiled next Tuesday. The iPad mini was released last year but (rather surprisingly) did not come with Apple's retina display. Rumor has it that's going to change this year, as Apple will up the resolution of its 7.9-inch tablet from 1024x768. The iPad mini is also said to be getting an upgrade to the A7 chip (the current version runs on Apple's second gen A5 SoC). The new full-size iPad is rumored to feature Apple's newest A7 SoC and a lighter design.
Is that it, though? Apple's invitation carries the cryptic tagline, "We still have a lot to cover," so it's possible there's a couple of surprises, too. We'll find out in a week!

New iPad, with fingerprint reader and 64 bit processor. And a new iPad Mini, with "Retina Display" or marketing lingo for HD resolution.
And a smartwatch companion for the iPad.

I'm sick of hearing about smart watches. I saw that Samsung Galaxy Watch the other day and it's quite possibly the most ridiculous piece of technology I've seen since the Nintendo Virtual Boy.
I'm guessing that the new iPads are not going to be bringing anything new to the table either, sadly.
