Wellington (FL) - A GPS tracking device has helped police catch a thief that snatched up a porcelain baby Jesus from a neighborhood Nativity scene. Police have arrested 18-year-old Danielle Santino for grand theft.
Workers at the Wellington Community Center installed the GPS tracking device back on December 3rd after the city's director community services read about a rash of stolen statues at other scenes. Workers couldn't find the statue on December 27th and then, through the help of the online GPS tracking site, discovered the statue had moved at 10 PM on the 26th.
Police didn't have to go far to arrest the thief because the GPS data showed the statue was in a house across the street. Santino has admitted to the theft and is now in jail on $3500 bail.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the Community Center values the statue at $800 and the GPS device at $400.
