Penetration of HDTV service estimated to rise 35% in H2 06

The number of households with HDTV services, which are homes with an HDTV set that can receive HDTV signals and watch HDTV programs, are projected to grow 35% from 15 million units in mid-2006 to 20.3 million at the end of 2006, according to research firm In-Stat. Consumer demand for viewing World Cup in high defintion contents has served as a catalyst for the start of HDTV services in several European countries, says Mike Paxton, an In-Stat analyst.
