Pro VR Content Creators Can Leverage Jaunt Publishing's Multichannel Distribution

Jaunt, an immersive video company, announced Jaunt Publishing, a content submission portal for professional VR creators. Jaunt Publishing aims to simplify the process of publishing content to multiple platforms by handling the heavy lifting in the cloud.

VR content creators can submit their creations to the Jaunt Publishing portal for consideration to be hosted on the Jaunt platform. Each piece of video content will be subject to approval by an internal review board. Jaunt said that it only approves content that “deserves to be featured among the best cinematic VR experiences.” The company said it will be evaluating submissions for visual quality and its propensity to cause nausea. Jaunt will also be heavily leaning towards stereoscopic experiences, though monoscopic video is supported on the platform.

Creators with approved experiences will benefit from several features of the Jaunt Publishing program, including access to Jaunt Cloud Services (JCS), which gives creators access to cloud-based VR production and transcoding features that simplify multichannel distribution.

Jaunt’s platform is available across a wide selection of devices, including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR HMDs; Android and iOS mobile devices; and desktop platforms. The Jaunt Publishing platform takes care of formatting and transcoding for each device. Approved creators simply submit their source file to the Jaunt Publishing portal, and JCS will automatically generate compatible versions for each supported platform.

Every video that is published on the Jaunt platform is also given a unique “deep-link,” which makes it simple to share the content through external channels. The “deep-links” bypass the Jaunt video portal to launch the video directly. Jaunt said that these special links will automatically call up the correct format for the device on which you're viewing it.

Jaunt Publishing also offers Dolby Atmos technology that gives creators the ability to incorporate spatial audio technology into their content; Jaunt said that the approval process will favor content that takes advantage of immersive audio technologies.

Jaunt has a list of submission guidelines, which includes a few obvious restrictions. Jaunt won’t host any video with X-rated content, nor any that includes “gratuitous violence” or that depicts acts of substance abuse (including alcohol). The company also asked that you keep the profanity to a minimum. You can find the complete list of rules and restrictions on the company’s website.

Jaunt will be on hand showing off the Jaunt Publishing platform and Dolby Atmos enabled content at the Dolby booth (booth C5) at VRLA on August 5 and 6. Jaunt will also be showcasing its Jaunt ONE camera at the Radiant Images booth (A19/A20) during the same event.
