Leisure Suit Larry Could Relaunch via Kickstarter

By - Source: Kickstarter | B 16 comments

The adventure game of all adventure games could be coming back.

Leisure Suit Larry is making an appearance on Kickstarter to ask for donations that could finance a new, 25th anniversary game based on the original release. First released in 1987 as "Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards" and most recently featured in 2009 as "Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust". Relay Games apparently acquired the copyright to update the initial release and also claim to have convinced creator Al Lowe to participate in a new game.

At the time of this writing, the developers had attracted more than $135,000 in financing. They have another 28 days to reach their $500,000 goal. Donations begin with $15 and go up to $10,000 which will buy a dinner with Al Lowe in Seattle. Contributions in between provide starring roles in one of the game scenes.

If you are at least in your 30s, you may remember Leisure Suit Larry as one of those games you loved to play, but you did not want your parents to know you played. In the game series, the player accompanies an easily likeable, 40-ish loser in his efforts to seduce women with any measure available to him. However, while the setup has all the indications for raunchy entertainment, Larry mostly fails in his attempts to get laid, which turns a potentially sexually explicit adventure into a funny game.

If sufficient funding is acquired, Relay Games says that it could release the new game by October of this year.

amigafanwhat?! October this year? Either they've already progressed with the game very far and are now collecting money for marketing or the game will suck (and possibly made in flash). Most likely it will be severely delayed.

They already started development last year. They just need more money to keep the project going, I guess. It's a 2D point&click adventure and a remake at that. Shouldn't be too difficult to finish in time.

Can't wait to get my hands on Leisure Suit Larry again.... ew... I mean... play with him again..... uhm... never mind.

updating the origional game shouldnt be to hard, and sounds more like a hobby project than a game, i know there is work required, but its not that hard to do, comparitivly speaking.

I'm 25 and I've enjoyed playing this game with my older brother (he's 26).

Going back to the times we play, I remember that while I did feel something down there, I didn't care much about all the soft-porn action. I was simply curious because it's natural, and it's part of nature. However, when our mom entered the room (just in time to see a partially naked woman, thx Murphy), her reaction was hilarious (in retrospect, back then it was plain scary lol).

Funny as it may sound, this game is one of the things that make me realize that most old(er) people label sex as dirty, which they shouldn't, while kids don't see it as something they should be ashamed at, because sex isn't dirty, it's part of nature and everybody's doing it.

Well I guess this post was about sharing how much Larry actually affected me as a grown-up, and considering I played this game at 4th grade or smth like that (lol), I think this is really an achievement for these kind of games, and I look forward to a sequel ;)

I enjoyed this series, even with the LOW graphics and silly blocks that covered any "action" that was
"happening". It was funny and the stories always made sense.

But asking for money and then selling the game....
Now that is a new LOW for Larry.

I'd rather have a Quest For Glory HD remake.

Maxor127I'd rather have a Quest For Glory HD remake.

this series along with Space Quest!

    Love those games!

But I wouldn't buy just a remake, they would have to include more tasks, alternate endings and KEEP the same "legacy" point and click interface.

I remember having to get past the "adult filter" in the 1st one... I'd keep restarting it until I answered all the questions correctly.

...One fun memory is me going outside to ask my dad the answer to one of the questions:
    "Hey Dad, what's a 'G-Spot'"

his response... "you'll have to ask your mom for that one"

    :)

"The adventure game of all adventure games could be coming back."

That is the stretch of all stretches. LLL is an icon of PC gaming, but is hardly worthy of that teaser.

    awood28211"Al sent me"

    That'll cost you $50k.

    It was "Ken Sent Me".

News articles on the net mention, for a $50k donation, they'll let you change it.
