Mafia II Recommends 2.4GHz Quad Core
Do you have what it takes to be a made man?
Mafia was one of those solid, underrated PC games got was well loved by critics and the hardcore, but it never got the exposure that it deserves. Thankfully, that didn't stop a sequel from being made, and now we know what sort of hardware you'll need to run Mafia II.

a Gtx 480 AND a dedicated physiX card wow now that game must be a real graphics wonder or crappy programmed
So I take it that they are also marketing for nVidia?
But can it play Mafia II?
If it's a console mod to PC, there is not reason it would need more than the minimum requirements to run at the equivalent console settings. To say otherwise means the PC version is badly optimized version.
Now, it wasn't enough that we are bound to windows with Microsoft DirectX in PC gaming, we also need to buy crapocards from nVidia or feel the power of 8087 instruction set...
I m not so sure about nvidia this time after the incidents of splinter cell double agent with geforce 8800.
Based on the requirements i expect Mafia 2 to beat Crysis in eyecandy run, otherwise - wtf?
Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Something tells me it doesn't need to be that intense! Sounds like the developer got together with NVIDIA to find a "solution" to their slow selling video cards.
Just another way to rob our wallets, Mafia (II) style!
More and more games now requires quad core.
cpu power does matter for future proofing.
Those are some intense recommended graphics, either its unbelievably graphical, or incredibly poor programming
See for your own (Mafia2 E3 trailer)
If the gameplay and story are nearly as good as the first Mafia, this game has to be a blast...
Before anyone whines about only DX9, you can thank MS and the Crapbox 360 for that. The XP support will die off though. Vista and Vista SP2 (Windows 7) use the same kernel.
Please tell me I'm not the only shmuck who glanced at the title and thought it was about "Mafia Wars" on FB.
if it needs a quad core for the recommended requirements. i can foresee amd selling alot more quad cores due to their relative inexpensiveness heck a 2.9 quad for 99 bucks and it meets that portion of the requirements.
Just went through a bit of "gameplay" action, and you can tell this is not just about pretty textures and models, it seems that, as it was the case with Mafia 1, the game universe it's simply amazing.
It's like being on freaking Chicago several decades ago and everything seems to be "alive". Makes me wanna game again ...
That is rediculous. If the games can run on consoles, there should be no reason why the system requirements should be this high. The game better have insanely good graphics in order to justify graphics requirements being this high...
Mafia Wars on Facebook? That's funny, there is only ONE Mafia, and NOTHING on Facebook could match it!
As long as the story is good like someone else posted, this game will be great. Mafia is easily in my top 20 games of all time list.
Might have to start up a real Mafia so we can raid PC stores to get parts to actually play this game.
the next benchmark game , believe me !!!
kinda impressed by it's need for a quad core but the graphics requirements are a little outrageous imho! 480 + 285.. Top tier single gpu cards from both the current and last gen of cards?
Yea, wth is up with those graphics requirements. Any good game engine doesn't need a super-computer to run it. (Example: Source Engine, and even Dice's Frostbite engine)
the next benchmark game , believe me !!!
With Physx on it will be an nVidia only benchmark.
I have a question for the gurus. I have a crossfire capable (2 GPU slots) motherboard (not SLI) and a Geforce 8800GTS, can I keep the Geforce as a physx-dedicated device and install a Radeon for graphics?
But can it play Mafia II?
Yes, its like the changing of the guard, but in this case the game.
not too often to they recommend the fastest card on the market to play the game, usually its a notch or 2 down...
I'm just as confused as everyone else. Why would you need a GTX 480 + Dedicated PhysX processor if this things ALSO runs on the XBox 360 and PS3?
My only hope is that PC version is just that much more impressive than the console version, and that games like Mafia II are signaling the death knell of this generation of consoles. I really can't imagine that a console can produce the same quality as a Core i7 970 + GTX 480 + GTX285PhysX.
My rig isnt up to swpc processor wise(athlon x2 6000+) why is it that the game has a reccomendation for a quadcore and only 2gb RAM? Finally im getting real tired of Nvidia buying off developers so they can push back dev times and make buggy games to support their crappy and overpriced cards. Ive been burned by nvidia cards personally 4 times and ive lost count on the ammount times we get machines with nvida cards that go bad(especially the high end ones, just last week a customier came in with a gtx 280 that started showing artifacts and locking up windows, replaced it with a 5770 and it runs all of his games with all the bells and whistles at the full resolution of his 23" monitor). If I need an Nvidia card to get anything decent out of this game then im going to have to let it pass.
So they recommend a GTX 480 for video, seems a little high, But a GTX 285 just for Physx?!?
P.S. LOL that they are suggesting cards (285) that nvidia doesn't even sell anymore
9800 GTX / ATI Radeon HD 3870 or better ?
. The first Mafia was kinda fun, ah so long ago, so we'll see how good this one is.
Guess it's optimized for AMD there
The game engine was designed for the PC first and foremost from what I can gather. The game will be much more detailed on the PC supposedly. It does appear from the videos and the pictures I've seen to be graphically intensive. However, restricting the special effect to specifically one vendors proprietary source just makes a lot of people mad. Add to that the NVidia won't let you use one of their video cards as just a physx card and you get more angry people. If the game is optimized properly, it should just scream on 4 cores. And yes x87 code for the Physx engine needs to be updated sooner rather than later to something better, SSE maybe?

I found the answer there. For me the answer is No, lucky X58 owners Yes :S

I don't think so.
