MSI Infuses GT Dominator, GE Apache Gaming Notebooks With Nvidia GeForce 800M Graphics
These notebooks have Nvidia GeForce 800M series graphics.
MSI Computer Corp announced on Wednesday that the company updated the GT Dominator and GE Apache series of laptops with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 800M series graphics along with the previously announced SteelSeries backlit gaming keyboard and XSplit Gamecaster. The GT Dominator series and GE Apache series can be purchased now for starting prices of $1,499.99 and $1,199.99 respectively.
"The myriad of cutting-edge components makes the GT Dominator and GE Apache the ultimate mobile gaming systems for any type of gamers," said Andy Tung, CEO for MSI Pan America. "Nvidia’s GTX 800M Series graphics gives our notebooks unprecedented graphics processing ability, translating into an ultra-realistic and immersive gaming experience."
The laptops are broken down into four groups: the GT60 Dominator (15.6 inch), the GT70 Dominator (17.3 inch), the GE60 Apache (15.6 inch) and the GE70 Apache (17.3 inch). The Dominator laptops feature either the 870M or the 880M GPU whereas the Apache laptops will come packed with an 860M or an 850M GPU. There are around 17 models in all, which are listed below.
The GT70 DominatorPro-1039 is probably the most expensive in the whole bunch, consisting of a 17.3 inch Full HD screen, a Core i7-4930MX (3.7 GHz, 3.9 GHz) processor, and a special "Super Pack" with a headset, mouse, mousepad and backpack. This notebook also packs a $4,099.99 price tag.
According to the specs, this top-of-the-line model also sports Nvidia's GeForce GTX 880M GPU (8 GB GDDR5, VRAM) 32 GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz memory, a Blu-ray disc burner, an SD card reader, Killer E2200 game networking, Bluetooth and a 720P HD webcam. For storage, the laptop features three mSATA 128 GB SSDs with read speeds from 1000 MB/s to as much as 1500 MB/s, and a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive.
Out of the whole batch, the GE70 Apache Pro-061 is probably the cheapest, costing a mere $1,199.99. This model sports an Intel Core i5-4200H (3.2 GHz, 3.4 GHz) processor, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M (2 GB GDDR5), 12 GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz memory and a 1 TB hard drive. There's also a DVD burner, Killer E2200 networking, a 720P HD webcam and more.
MSI has equipped the Dominator and Apache notebooks with Sound Blaster Cinema, Dynaudio Speakers and MSI’s Audio Boost technology. They're also able to output to 4K displays and can connect multiple independent monitors simultaneously using the Matrix Multi-Monitor Display.

Yeah, but that GPU can use a max of just about 3GB or so, and even that's pushing it.
The 880m has 256-bit bus.

Yeah, I was sad when I saw the 880 and 870 weren't based off of Maxwell. Maxwell is the perfect solution for laptops; twice the amount of performance per watt? Yes please.
Thanks for that. Guess you do learn something new every day...
Asus uses a 240w AC adapter for good reason in their G750 and MSI should as well. I thought MSI would probably have learned their lesson after the tomshardware review blasting NOS back in July of last year;; http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gt70-dragon-edition-2-core-i7-4930mx-laptop,3545-12.html
This is especially important if an Extreme CPU is in the laptop. Having that being fully utilized along with the GPU, NOS will engage and whatever you are trying to do cannot be done forever because the battery will eventually drain to 30%!
Some of the differences are:
GE60 PROS:
slimmer, lighter, extra 128gb SSD, bluray drive instead of dvd only and 12GB RAM instead of 8GB.
GT60 PROS:
longer battery life, i7 4810MQ instead of i7 4700HQ and GTX870M instead of GTX860M
