More people are tuning into podcasts

New York (NY) - According to a study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, the number of people who have downloaded a podcast has reached a new all-time high, though the amount of loyal listeners is still very low.

The study shows that 12% of Internet users have listened to at least one podcast. Earlier this year, the organization said that only 7% had done so.

"While podcast downloading is still an emerging activity primarily enjoyed by early adopters, the range of content now available speaks to both mainstream and niche audiences," says Mary Madden, senior researcher at The Pew Internet and American Life Project.

However, only 1% of people download podcasts daily, a statistic unchanged from the survey from earlier this year. Another trend that remained constant, based on the survey information, is that the demographic of someone most likely to download a podcast is a young to middle-aged male who considers himself to be an "online veteran".
