Half-Life 2 Coming to Nvidia Shield
Nvidia is sending out crowbars to the press.

So what would you do with a bright "Nvidia green" crowbar if it was dropped off by FedEx? If you were Gordon Freeman, you'd whack it against the head of some mutant slimeball from another dimension. But you're not Gordon Freeman, so the best you can do is throw it aside and play Half-Life 2 on Nvidia's Shield handheld console.
That's right. Half-Life 2 is next in line, following Portal.
Of course, we can't get Nvidia to cough up any juicy details just yet. But there's no question as to what Nvidia is suggesting by the lovely gift. It features the Half-Life 2 logo, a question asking "What Would Gordon Do?" and the Nvidia Shield logo, all in blue print. Fairly obvious.
In March, Nvidia hinted to the possibility that Valve's Source engine was up and running on Android when the company announced that Portal would be arriving soon. However, just yesterday we reported that the original Portal game will actually be arriving next week. That, of course, leads to speculation that Half-Life 2 and other Source games can be played on the Android console too.
Early impressions of Portal on Nvidia's Shield have been quite favorable. Half-Life 2 should be no different, if not more friendly to gamers who aren't acquainted with the classic mouse/keyboard setup. What's exciting here is that gamers can take Half-Life 2 anywhere. No bulky desktops or laptops are needed… just an HDMI port if you want to play on the big screen.
So for right now we have no release date, just a crowbar and a smiley face from Nvidia. We'll keep you updated on the news, but in the meantime, Nvidia is selling the Shield for $199.99. The console is an awesome machine that's fast, portable and capable of streaming games from a Kepler-based PC.

You sir have won this article.
This saddens me. It is true that there are probably a large number of newer gamers who are not acquainted with M/KB setup and that is sad as that is the best way to experience FPS based games.

I agree. Trying to play any serious FPS with a gamepad is absolute crap vs a keyboard / mouse combo. The precision difference isn't even close. The only reason console players try to say otherwise is because their opponent is on a console as well. If a game was cross system, all console users would cry cheater and hacker to every PC user who can instantly headshot them on a consistent basis.
Steam alone is worth something like $2 billion a year, I think they have plenty of money to throw around and I doubt this cost them that much as they ported HL2 to OpenGL a while ago. I doubt it took much to move over.
And they are working on HL3. Plenty of people have taken tours where there is always one room that is off limits to tours.
Also we need to consider that Source 2 was confirmed which means they probably went the route of a new game engine as Source is pretty old, even though it still looks good to me.
Prepare for unforeseen consequences...
A very famous, established-a-company type game. Yep. I'd say it does.
You don't miss reporting on a celebrity when they come back after 10 years, do you?
It does when it can introduce more people to HL2. The storyline is one of the most engaging in the history of computer gaming.
