Heads of the RIAA rail against student piracy in op-ed piece

In the wake of a new round of anti-piracy lawsuits filed by the RIAA, the organization's leadership is taking its message directly to students and faculty in an Op-Ed piece. The piece, written by Mitch Bainwol, Chairman and CEO of the RIAA, and Cary Sherman, RIAA's president, was published March 15th in the Inside Higher Ed website. In the piece, Bainwol and Sherman detail RIAA's struggles against piracy calling it "massive theft". -
University Student Faces Expulsion Over Facebook Study Group

A first-year Ryerson University student faces expulsion after running an online Facebook study group that swapped homework tips. 18-year-old Chris Avenir has been hit with 147 counts - one for each student who used the group - of academic misconduct and will now go in front of the engineering department for an expulsion hearing. -
Santa Clara university student wins Tom's Hardware Guide's $10K PC

Brendan Duda, a mechanical engineering major at Santa Clara University, had been thinking about upgrading his old computer, but now he doesn't have to. Duda has won the Tom's Hardware Guide tenth-year anniversary computer which is valued at over $10,000 dollars. The massive computer with an equally massive 30" Apple Cinema display now resides in Duda's frat house room near the university. -
