Heart of the Swarm Sells 1.1 Million Copies in 48 Hours
StarCraft II's expansion sells well, surprising no one.
Rather unsurprisingly, StarCraft II expansion Heart of the Swarm is selling quite well. Just after 48 hours its launch last week, Heart of the Swarm sold 1.1 million copies, digital and retail numbers combined.
“We want to thank the global StarCraft community for the incredible passion and support they’ve shown for Heart of the Swarm,” said CEO Mike Morhaime. “In addition to a brand-new single-player campaign, we added a ton of enhancements with this expansion to make StarCraft 2 even more fun to play, and more exciting to watch.
“We’re pleased to see gamers and eSports fans around the world enjoying Heart of the Swarm.”
Heart of the Swarm managed to post the same sales numbers in two days what SimCity managed in two weeks. Considering that the expansion has now been on sale for well over a week, it'll be interesting to see just how well it sold in the same time span. While it won't be another Diablo III, which was at the 6.3 million mark after the first week, it's sure to be something quite as impressive.

Let's hope not anyway.

Interesting stab at EA given that a) Blizzard has a history of launch problems too and b) they are entirely different games from entirely different genres.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I almost didn't buy Heart of the Swarm because of how D3 went but I took a chance and I like it so far.
I agree, especially since you already see a portrait of the person speaking.
Anyhow, my biggest beef with the game thus far has been performance. I don't know what Blizzard did, but HotS runs like crap compared to the frame rates I got on WoL. i've had to turn my settings down about two notches to get similar performance, and even then big battles that used to run butter-smooth are now lagging.
That being said, I've only experienced that with one Blizzard title, and I buy pretty much all of them. I have only purchased a few EA games, and every time those have had huge gameplay bugs that seem impossible to miss, as if it were a beta. Every starcraft and warcraft title I've ever purchased has been rock-solid on release day.
I could login the second day from launch, it did some strange things like not loading the avatar on character selection but i could play single player fine.
In any case after a couple of hours i was bored of the whole thing. Learned my lesson.
Totally agree on the performance. I haven't even bought the expansion yet, but the game bogs down, and I moved my settings to the lowest possible. I'm pretty sure they make you download the expansion whether you paid for it or not, they just don't enable it.
