Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella revealed on Wednesday that the upcoming Titanfall beta will not be open to everyone all at once; the beta will be closed instead. The good news here is that customers won't need to pre-order the game in order to get into the beta, but you'll still need a code to gain entry.
"[The] goal is to get as many people in as possible, doing it in waves to make sure it works," Zampella said on Twitter.
As of this writing, the beta build is going through certification at Microsoft. There's now talk that it will go live on February 14, and that gamers will need an Electronic Arts Origin account in order to play. Unfortunately, how gamers will acquire the golden beta code is unknown at this time.
The Titanfall team also revealed that the game will support Microsoft's Smart Glass. As VG247 points out, Halo 4 uses Smart Glass as a portal to the Halo Waypoint match stats compository, so it's easy to see Titanfall provide the same second-screen service.
In related news, Electronic Arts revealed on Thursday that the Xbox One and PC version will launch on March 11, but the Xbox 360 version was pushed back to March 25.
"In these last few weeks before launch, Respawn is in the final stages of polishing the Xbox One and PC versions of the game," states Patrick Soderlund, EVP at EA Studios. "Bluepoint is doing the same with the Xbox 360 version. To give them the time they need to put the finishing touches on the current-gen version of the game, we are moving the Xbox 360 ship date to March 25 in North America and March 28 in Europe. The extra two weeks will ensure the full world of Xbox gamers has an awesome experience."
As previously reported, the minimum specs required to play this game on the PC include a 64-bit operating system (Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1), an AMD Athlon X2 clocked at 2.8 GHz or an Intel Core 2 Duo clocked at 2.4 GHz. Additional requirements consist of 4 GB RAM, 512 MB of VRAM, Radeon HD 4770 or GeForce 8800GT.
