Valve: Next Half-Life Game Needs to be Terrifying
Those headcrabs used to be pretty scary, but they probably wouldn't cut it any longer.
Still waiting for the next installment of Half-Life. So are we. While Valve isn't saying anything about the Half-Life 3 or Episode 3, we now have reason to believe that it'll be a scary affair.
Speaking to Edge magazine, according to CVG, Valve boss Gabe Newell said, "I feel like we've gotten away from genuinely scaring the player more than I'd like, and it's something we need to think about, in addition to broadening the emotional palette we can draw on."
While Newell didn't mention a specific upcoming Half-Life specifically, it was clear that the developer was thinking carefully about how to scare the series' core fans: "The death of their children. The fading of their own abilities."

It will be released when done. When it will be released, I hope it will live up to its hype.
Will Half Life 3 go the way of Duke Nukem Forever? Stay tuned to find out!
It's been almost 3 years since the last "Episode"... now that's what I call Terrifying!
I never thought the Half Life series scary to be honest. Sure, when I was 12, maybe I was scared then, but now, it's just thrilling! Can't wait for their release, maybe bundled with Portal 2!!!
No matter what happens, I want to slaughter an Advisor. With my Crowbar.
For a game we know absolutely nothing about, I know it will be awesome. Need proof? Evidence: L4D, L4D2, HL, HL 2, HL E1, HL E2, TF 2, CS, CSS, Portal, to be released Portal 2, etc. Valve is virtually unblemished in the developer field. How could it not be good?
Valve does a lot of things right. Their Episodic release schedule, however...
Episodic = additional content, same engine. Time = months. Time != years.
The most 'terrifying' thing on HL2 would have been on Return to Ravenholm when those fast things (not sure of know name) would come of of nowhere and shoot you. More surprising than anything, I guess. Still, HL2 is the best PC game I've ever played. Tons of replay value in it.
Valve is one of my favorite game devs out there, with games ranging from excellent to epic ...the only bad thing about them is that they make us to wait years between game relases
And IMO i think the delays with the next game of HL series is (rumors say) more related to the fact that valve is working on creating a new game engine... source engine is quite outdeted now, if they want to stay on the cutting edge on visuals (and they usually are).
Striek L4D and L4D2 off that list of greats. Sure, the first one was a good concept... too bad they screwed it up with an ancient game engine and poor coding. Not to mention releasing the second one so soon ended up fracturing the community (kind of like the fans said it would, IMO).
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't like first person shooters to be scary?

don't use steam Add ubisoft style Internet DRM..... now THAT's Scary!
episode three should've been out last year, this is bs
To be perfectly honest, the first Episode (Half Life 2)... scared the hell out of me. In that town at night when those things were climbing up the walls n' shit.. UGH.. freaked me out.

Exactly what I was just saying.. startling.
since half life is always epic i bet i will cry when i play this.
Just this last weekend, I was bored of the recent games released, and was looking over my steam account. I reloaded hl2, ep1 and ep2. I was curious how these would look with 2x5770 CF. These are still beautiful games, and I haven't stopped playing them. Hoping to finish the series again. What a coincidence.
It's hard to believe I was in my mid 20's when I played HL2,now that I'm in my 30's I feel so old but I'm still exited to play HL3.....
I hope I'm not in my 40's when the game is released.
Do not make it scary. Stupid (current) laws in Australia will refuse it classification (as being very scary for us Ozzies to handle) and we will not be able to play it here! /sarcasm
I will be scared if they add Adrian Shephard from opposing forces lol. No that would be sweet!!
Whatever they I do trust Valve to make an awesome sequel
Half-Life is supposed to be scary?
Would be even sweeter if halfway through the game Commander Shepard lands the Normandy on top of the ruins of the Borealis as Gordon and Co. reach the place. He explains that in return for helping him destroy the Reaper threat, the council races will eradicate that pesky "Combine" problem for them.
Gordon, of course, agrees.
I can't wait for HL2:EP3! If they make another L4D before EP3 or HL3 I will be pissed!
Speaking of waiting, Black Mesa Source needs to hurry the hell up!

Yeah, but the content is hardly "episodic". Each episode is a fantastic stand alone game. That they all carry a single story further is just gravy.
I guess they didn't learn anything from the Doom 3 failure. Stick to enhancing core game play mechanics.
I'd really like to see tomb raider game mechanics for a multiplayer fps game with some of the puzzle type aspects involved for good measure just to make things even more intense.
The big question is: Will we EVER get a Half-Life game released to scare us??
Episode 3 is currently playing golf with Duke Nukem forever. Now this is terrifying.
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't like first person shooters to be scary?
Possibly, and if not alone part of a minority.
