LG Has a Wearable Device for Kids Too

In addition to launching the G Watch earlier this week, LG Electronics also released the KizON smartband, wearable tech that’s designed for pre-school and primary school children.

According to the company, LG’s KizON smartband uses GPS and Wi-Fi to keep tabs on the child wearing the device, and will continuously keep the parent updated throughout the day thanks to a feature called Location Reminder. Parents can pre-set Location Reminder to provide location alerts at specific times.

The KizON also provides a One Step Direct Call button, which allows the child to dial a pre-configured phone number with just one press. This number can be changed at any time using a connected Android 4.1 or later tablet or smartphone. Parents can also give the smartband a call, and if the child doesn’t answer within ten seconds, KizON will automatically connect the call and allow parents to listen through the built-in microphone.

The device features 400 mAh battery that promises 36 hours of use on a single charge. When the battery falls below 25 percent, parents will be notified on their smartphones. KizON is also constructed of eco-friendly polythiourethane (PTU) material that is both water-resistant and stain resistant, so no worries about turning the child’s arm green and accidental spills on the device.

“Children as well as the elderly are ideal customers for wearable technologies,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Wearables allow us to stay connected without the worry of losing a device or the inconvenience of having to carry a large item in a pocket.”

KizON will be introduced to Korea first on July 10 in blue, pink and green, and then make its way into North America and Europe in Q3 2014.  The pricing and actual availability will be revealed shortly before its release.
