Microsoft Rumored to Change Windows Logo in Windows 8
A new breed of Windows could have a slightly more contemporary logo.
The iconic Microsoft Windows "flag" logo could be getting a makeover in time for the launch of Windows 8. We all know this logo very well:
Going even further back, we can see the wavy flag inspiration's humble beginnings:

According to cnBeta, Microsoft will be straightening things out and the new Windows logo will do away with the curves to look more like a real-world window:
The supposed upcoming logo also matches up well with the square and rectangle design language of Metro.
It's unconfirmed, as even the latest leaked builds of Windows 8 still feature the present flag logo, but we'll know soon enough.

Looks totally ugly. The original Windows logo is iconic; this new logo prototype is easily forgettable. I mean, it's what, just four rectangles lined up and tilted a bit. Big deal. Whoopee.
It's like taking the Apple logo and changing it to a pear (or other random fruit). It just loses its iconic-ness.
microsoft just patented tilted rectangles... Geometry teachers of the world beware
Windows for Workgroups is the best logo ever!!!
microsoft just patented tilted rectangles... Geometry teachers of the world beware
That's called trapezoid, dumbasss!
Awful.
First they dump the START button. Now they dump their logo.
Why call it windows anymore? Just call it "Bill's slowly dying Money Printing OS"
Windows 8 is just getting worse and worse... Make it look and act like 7, give me the performance improvements of 8, make sure I NEVER see metro UI unless I install on a tablet, and ill be happy...
Windows XP logo looks better (than Win 7)
Waiting for Windows 9.
aaahhhh the nostalgia... love to see that 3.11 logo again, it's been soooo long!
I'm beginning to feel more and more confident that I'll be able to skip right over this OS and not feel like I missed anything at all.
UNconfirmed. Is this a slow news day Tom's?
I like it, and unless you have tried a windows 8 build you shouldn't comment if played with it on tablets and on my desktop and I think it has some really slick features. I think its gonna add allot but I think 9 is really gonna change the OS industry for most main stream consumers

it's called a trademark smartass. not a patent
Apple would probably try to find a way to patent it.
Shame that the 8 is curved and all
/*sarcasm
...ahh why? We know windows - leave the classic XP logo just modernize it. Stop messing with logos and focus on the product!
Who cares about logo, I don't. Hope it won't be another win me.
It looks like the flag of Sweden.
"Simple" isn't always better.
Apple would probably try to find a way to patent it.
Nah, the rectangles don't have "rounded corners"
at least use the color scheme on the window...
the new design looks like it belongs on a replacement windows or a construction company...
and they paid MONEY for the new design?
Going the Google way, simplicity.
That's called trapezoid, dumbasss!
I thought trapezoid have sides at a angle.
Lame
THATS IT!!!!! DEFINITELY GONNA STICK WITH WIN 3.4 TILL 9 IS RELEASED!.
I never did understand the Windows Logo... Never reminded me in any way of a real window or a computer window... It was just a weird flaggy wavy thing...
...once you go flat.
Makes sense.
Their first Windows logo seen here on the far left..

looks better than their latest one. If anything thier first Windows logo fits better with the metro style they are going for than the new Windows Logo does.
It could at least be a cool looking window, not something that looks like CGA graphics from 1987. How about a shiny metallic framed window with transparent or even tinted window panes? Then the "window" (why is it even plural when it's just one window with four panes?) could maybe be resting in the palm of someone's hand or something. I don't know, but anything is better than this, if this design is actually being considered. Or even better, just make the Windows 7 logo a multi-colored metallic sphere with the four window panes in the side.
