Before Microsoft's Surface was a tablet, it was a much bigger touchscreen device. Still, just because the Surface is no longer a tabletop, that doesn't mean it has to stay small. Redmond's latest marketing stunt has seen the company set up a huge Surface tablet in the middle of London, England.
The device is sitting in London's Trafalgar Square and measures a whopping 383 inches in size. The Verge reports that the device's keyboard actually feeds back to a Surface Pro 2 nearby, and kids can play a spelling game by stepping on the keys of the giant keyboard. The input is fed back to the Surface Pro 2 and displayed on the giant screen. No word on how long the tablet is going to be there, but we imagine Microsoft will be more than happy to direct folks to the Microsoft Store where they can acquire a more management-sized version.
Microsoft announced the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 in late September. The Surface 2 is a next generation Surface RT (Microsoft just dropped the 'RT' branding) and packs Windows RT (version 8.1) as well as a 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display and support for microSD, USB 3.0, and HD video out. The tablet comes in two variations, 32 GB or 64 GB, and ships with Office 2013 RT and 200 GB of SkyDrive storage (for two years). The Surface Pro 2 comes with a full version of Windows 8.1 Pro, a 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display, support for microSD, USB 3.0, and mini DisplayPort. Both 64 GB and 128 GB capacities are available with 4 GB of RAM. The 256 GB and 512 GB capacities will each have 8 GB of RAM and both come with 200 GB of SkyDrive storage.
