Xiaomi Announces 4K 3D-capable Mi TV 2 for Just $640
By , - Source: via Engadget

One of the biggest trends we saw at CES 2014 in Las Vegas this past January was 4K. Unfortunately, as with all new technologies, jumping on the 4K trend isn't exactly cheap. Chances are, if you've seen any 4K TVs at the store, the price tag has been pretty scary. However, those prices won't stay high forever. Eventually, things will normalize, and 4K will become a lot more affordable. Case in point: Xiaomi today introduced a new 49-inch offering priced for all.

According to Engadget, the panel itself is manufactured by either LG or CSOT, and the TV is based on a MediaTek SoC with a quad-core CPU clocked to 1.45 GHz and Mali-450 graphics. There’s also 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of onboard storage, and support for MicroSD expansion up to 64 GB. The TV is powered by Android but has Xiaomi's own UI running on top.

Measuring in at 49 inches (resolution is 3840 x 2160), this isn't the biggest TV out there. But that's why Xiaomi can offer it to people for so little. The fact that customers can buy a 4K 3D TV for just shy of $650 is kind of amazing. The fact that it's a little on the small size compared to the TVs we saw at CES this year isn't lost on us. However, if you're living in a smaller space, you possibly don't need or have room for a larger TV anyway.

The Mi TV 2 is going on pre-sale at the end of this month for CN¥3,999 or roughly $640 by today's exchange rate. No word on international availability or pricing just yet, but we'll keep you posted if and when Xiaomi announces anything.
