Introduction

We’ve redesigned the Tom’s Hardware website to make it easier for you to find and read the articles and news you need to see. We’ll show you some of that in a minute. But, before we do, here’s a little of the story behind the new Tom’s Hardware.

How We Got Here

Bestofmedia Logo

In April of last year, The Bestofmedia Group acquired TG Publishing, the long-time owner of Tom’s Hardware, Gear Digest and TwitchGuru. In the same month, the leadership of Bestofmedia Group laid out their plans for the future of these websites.

Three key ideas were presented.

  1. Editorial experts from around the world would benchmark and write about the best and most important new products in the areas covered by each website.
  2. All of the Bestofmedia websites around the world would share articles, increasing the number of high quality stories available to all readers.
  3. All the websites would be identified by the Tom’s trademark.

All of these ideas have become reality. Tom’s Hardware has retained its world famous name and brings you a steady stream of very high quality technology updates and product reviews, along with what is soon to become a world class news team.

Gear Digest is now Tom’s Guide and TwitchGuru is Tom’s Games.

Our Tom’s Guide website has already gone through the changes that are now complete for Tom’s Hardware. And, like Tom’s Hardware, Tom’s Guide already benefits from great articles written by a growing internal staff and by the crack team of editors at Tom’s Guide France. More Tom’s Guide sites are scheduled to open around the world over the next year. And, that means more excellent feature and review articles to come.

Tom’s Games is the next Bestofmedia site to get a makeover. We can’t say much about what’s coming, but trust us, if you like the current edition of Tom’s Games, you’ll love what it will become not too long from now.

Like Tom’s Hardware, both Tom’s Guide and Tom’s Games will benefit from the strong news team we’re building.

The Changes on Tom’s Hardware?

The rest of this article is devoted to showing you what Tom’s Hardware looks like now and talking a bit about how you can most benefit from the changes.

The good news is that the changes we’ve made make it easier to find and read the articles you need to see. And, a new back end for the website assures that many things such as searches will be more accurate and complete.

Nothing is ever perfect out of the chute, so we do ask that you be a bit patient for the first few weeks and, more importantly, that you give us your feedback on the new Tom’s Hardware. To do that please send email to Barry Gerber.

I love the new look, but the light blue is a little hard to read for headlines and stuff sometimes.

WE HATE THE NEW LOOK!!!!!!! I must say this new "design" lacks usability testing, rough drafts should have been done. First off its too much junk on the first page. Put hardware/news on left side and still show pictures. The rest of the main page should have links on the right to other sections like Games, Entertainment exc. Its hard to keep track of that many articles. There could at least be clear visible dates (White background with Grey text is bad) with them if you get rid of pictures. Remember a picture says 1000 words, and the human brain can only remember about 7-16 words/numbers at a time for long term memory, so if you make all users remember 800 words for 20 posted articles you will have very angry uses. Also test color choices. Not all people can see properly or have monitors that have the same brightness/contrast.

The new charts are indeed a disaster! The default view only shows you the boring old products. And they are completely unsorted. It took me a while to find the button "View all products". That exposes ALL products even the the latest models. But what's the point in presenting old boring products in the first place.

I want the old charts back! One simple view of all products tested in a sorted manner. I want to see all models right at the begining without clicking on some button that I need to look for. Easter is over, folks.

The charts page is just aweful. One the charts list, you should have at least a box with all of the charts (Small, common charts on top like VGA, CPU, and less used ones on bottom) so we can get to the charts easier.

And the charts themselves have to be smaller. With the old charts, you could see nearly all of the components at once. Now we have to scroll tons to see the component we want, and then we have to scroll back and forth to compare two components.

I liked the scrolling forum threads from the old format.

each re-design looks worse and un-user-friendly for like... the past 10 years.

Big step backwards. Slow, missing charts (ie desktop cpu charts ). Been using the old site last couple of days for the first time. Easily found all the info I was looking for. Now I can’t find anything. Who talked you guy’s into changing this? Want the old back.

It looks cool and all, but definitely not easier to use. It almost like the NBA homepage. It gets so confusing when you put so much stuff, but I'll get use to it. Gotta change the Latest News chart. I like the old one, it was easy acesss, then this...Now I have to click through the pages... please please change that...

Yeah, the white background with light blue letters is not cutting it. It's hard on the eyes. There's too much WHITE too. a darker shades of background would be nice. I find it odd that you guys are missing very basic points of website creation.

Hate the new look!!! Worst job are charts. Before they were very easy to read now...HORRIBLE. At least do color change between different brands...AMD INTEL SEAGATE WD etc...please you are killing my eyes...light blue color I would fire your designer. If I had 5 thumbs 4 would be pointing down.
