3DMark 2003
3DMark is called the "gamer's benchmark" and THG has been using its different versions for years. The mark is set using a reference system; the higher the score, the better the performance of that system versus the reference one. With each new version of 3DMark, scores are scaled down so they do not become astronomically high. The latest version of 3DMark came out last week, but we encountered some problems on some cards and felt it was too soon to add the benchmarking software. (We like to test out every new benchmark in depth before we start using it.) For this article we will begin phasing out 3DMark 2003 but continue using 3DMark 2005.
