Seagate Savvio 15K.1, ST973451SS (73 GB, 2.5" SAS)

Although there has been a Savvio 10K.1 and the Savvio 10K.2 is ready, this is the first-generation Seagate 2.5" SAS drive with 15,000 RPM. Other manufacturers haven't been able to speed up a 2.5" drive to 15,000 RPM, but we believe it is only a matter of time. Its access time of 5.6 ms is excellent, and so is the data transfer speed of up to 104 MB/s. This is faster than any other hard drive except the Cheetah 15K.5, which scores almost 128 MB/s. The Savvio 15K.1 also got great scores in the PCMark05 application benchmarks, although these weren't designed for server hard drives. Yet they are a useful tool to characterize hard drive performance.

It was impressive to see that the Savvio 15K.1 dominates almost all I/O performance benchmarks. At a maximum capacity of 73 GB, it isn't necessarily a storage specialist, but while using this hard drive you'll be able to create the highest-performance storage arrays, as this drive can beat anything else in I/O intensive applications.
