Fall Extreme Gamer System Shootout Part 2: ABS M6

Background

ABS stands for "Always Better Service." This is the core philosophy of ABS Computer Technologies Inc., an OEM that sells custom built desktops, notebooks, workstations and servers. In addition, ABS sells to do-it-yourselfers with their line of barebones notebook and desktop kits. Since its humble beginnings in 1990 in City Of Industry, California, ABS is true to their belief of never using proprietary hardware. Every piece of hardware in their systems could be purchased off the shelf at other retailers.

That brings us to their Ultimate M6. It is a traditional air-cooled system that uses retail parts that a DIYer could easily build at home. However, not everyone has the time, skills and desire to build their own system. This is where the Michael Dell's of the world sell their services by making systems for their friends. This is how most system builders started out. Their stories might be different, but the spirit is the same.

So was the M6 a bad performer, a champion or just another box? As the rest of the articles in this series unfolds, you will see just how well it did against its peers. What we can tell you now is that it did well against our test system.
