JVC Everio GZ-MC200: An Hour of DVD with No Cassette!

Photo Image Quality

The Everio sports a 2.1 megapixel CCD sensor that can produce photographs at four different resolutions, with the maximum resolution 1600x1200 pixels. The result is quite good at that resolution when printed at 4"x6". The only criticism we have is the color hue, which again, leans to magenta.

In addition, there are a few very nice functions:

  • 3 image-per-second motor drive shooting
  • A built-in flash that can be forced on, turned off, or set to automatic mode
  • A PictBridge mode for printing photos directly to a printer without a computer, using a USB link
  • A self-timer (off, 2 sec, 10 sec)
  • Sensitivity adjustment (ISO 100, 200, 300)

Here are a few shots in 1600x1200 resolution that you can download:

As with video, photos can be browsed as thumbnails on the LCD display. Simply select one and you can view, lock, or delete it.

The Everio can also be used as a digital audio recorder, saving audio files in standard WAV format. Here's a sample of birdsong:

Here we see one advantage of a camcorder that uses a Microdrive - since there's no cassette, there is also no mechanical background noise.
