To this day, the WD740 Raptor remains the fastest Serial ATA hard disk on the market - it is the best in terms of average transfer rates, access times, and both I/O and application performance.
Because of the drive's rotational speed of 10,000 RPM, it should always be actively cooled, which usually means installing one or more additional fans for the job. But because relatively low fan speeds can keep the drive sufficiently cool, this requirement doesn't need to add appreciably to a system's noise output.
We believe that a new generation of Raptor drives will appear in the not-too-distant future.
