CPU Charts 2004
It's finally here - a true performance comparison between AMD and Intel processors. This will allow ambitious users as well as OEM partners and especially dealers to compare their systems with our reference values. What's special about this is a feature that it lets you directly compare two different CPUs of your choice. Simply select the desired models and a benchmark, and the appropriate chart appears. The two CPUs are displayed in the diagrams as specially marked red bars. Shown at the very bottom is also some important additional information: the absolute and relative difference between the two models. If you click on any of the bars on the chart, a pop-up window appears with data about that particular test configuration we used.

MIT's US$100-laptop project to be key for AMD share growth in 2006

Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) worldwide market share of the CPU market could top 20% in 2006 if the $100-laptop project launched by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab does well in emerging markets, market sources suggested.

Costco selling 400 GB hard drives for $100

Just when you thought hard drive prices couldn't get any lower, certain Costco stores are selling 400 GB internal hard drives for $99.97. The Western Digital 7200 RPM drives have been available for a few weeks and the price thankfully doesn't include any coupon or rebate hassles. At this price, we purchased several drives to outfit everyone in the office.

The next generation of hard drives has been introduced by Seagate. Only a couple of days ago, a fresh Cuda 7200.7 (aka ST 3200822A) arrived at our lab. 7,200 rpm, 8 MB cache and an amazing 100 GB per platter should do a good job, theoretically. Check out what this new drive is all about.

100 GB hard drives for notebooks have been available for a while now, but most of them only run at a leisurely 4,200 RPM. Toshiba has eliminated this shortcoming with the new MK1032GAX.
