Mobile CPU Charts 2007
Tom's Interactive Mobile CPU Charts focus on popular mobile processors, which are used in laptops and notebooks because of their increased energy efficiency. We tested nine AMD and Intel processors tested across 15 different benchmarks using Windows XP.
Core 2 Duo is the dominating processor in the notebook/laptop space and AMD's Turion 64 X2 has become a budget option. However, all of these dual core processors deliver sufficient performance for mainstream applications. The Price/Performance Index relates US$ costs to the overall performance.

CPU Charts 2008 Q1/2008
Tom's Interactive CPU Charts offer the most comprehensive x86 processor comparison on the Internet. The 2008 edition includes as many as 91 AMD and Intel desktop processors, which we tested across 35 individual benchmarks under Windows Vista. The benchmarks include industry standard software as well as popular workloads across multiple application categories, allowing you to find the CPU that meets your requirements (see benchmark details below the charts).
The Charts are also a valuable tool if you want to check how your computer stacks up against current hardware. The 2008 charts include three different processor generations, starting with AMD's Socket 939 Athlons and Semprons, and including all Pentium 4 and Pentium D processors that were released for Socket 775.

Been saving to buy a new processor? Hold the phone, cause the prices are coming down again. Intel has slashed prices of certain Quad-Core and Dual-Core processors for desktops and inexpensive servers.

AMD's quad-core CPU to consume dual-core power

If AMD has its way, then Intel's performance-per-watt leadership claim may be short lived: The first quad-core Opterons, due in 2007 will consume the same power as today's dual-core processors, while AMD expects Intel to increase the power envelope when adding more cores.

Intel roadmap confirms 2.67 GHz quad-core Core 2 Extreme

A new version of a roadmap distributed by Intel to its closest partners lists the upcoming quad-core "Kentsfield" as the new flagship of the firm's desktop processor portfolio. The new Core 2 Extreme will arrive with a clock speed of 2.67 GHz, more L2 cache and substantially higher power consumption.

44 quad-core CPUs = 9000 Pentium Pro processors, says Intel

Ahead of the Super Computing 2006 (SC06) conference, which will open its doors on November 11, Intel announced new server cluster software tools and provided more information about its Clovertown quad-core processor, which industry sources expect to debut on November 12.

Intel preps quad-core mobile chip, new CPU architecture for 2008 - analyst

Intel is running its development and manufacturing resources at full speed to roll out its "Core" architecture later its year. In-Stat analyst Jim McGregor believes that the company will not take any chances to fall behind again: Quad-core chips appear on the horizon and the company may be introducing a new microarchitecture in 2007 or 2008.

Intel shows off its tech horsepower, revealing more details about its upcoming 45 nm CPU generation: Penryn, a processor core that will replace the current 65 nm Core 2 processors, uses a new transistor technology to boost performance and reduce power consumption. The Penryn quad-core will carry a stunning 820 million transistors.

Intel's quad-core rings in a new era of enthusiast systems

We've heard the story over and over again: Dual-cores are the fastest chips you can buy, period. While that claim may be true in many cases, it is especially not true for gaming: Games have not yet embraced multithreading and are lagging behind. Half-Life 2 developer Valve, however, believes that this scenario will change quickly and promises a 3.4x performance gain with four cores.

Eat this, Quad FX: Here's an 8-core desktop!

You didn't think that Intel would leave all that dual-socket fame for itself, did you? At CES, Intel showed off an 8-core desktop system build on a 2P workstation board with two quad-core processors. Intel claims that the system trumps AMD's fastest Quad-FX by 61% in one key benchmark. And yes, we do have pictures of this beast.
