A-Data to begin mass production of 2 GB FB-DIMMs in July

Next month, leading Taiwan memory-module house A-Data Technology plans to commence mass production of 2 GB fully-buffered DIMMs that utilize DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 DRAM chips, mainly manufactured under a 90nm technology process, from Samsung and Elpida, the company said.

A-Data, a Taiwanese memory and peripheral company, has shown off prototypes of an upcoming solid-state drive for ExpressCard, IDE and SATA interfaces. Mainly built for notebook computers, the drives have capacities of 32, 64 and 128 GB.

A-Data Technology chairman Simon Chen yesterday said that NAND flash prices will stop decreasing after the first quarter of this year, while demand will pick up in the second half of the year, driven by handsets, MP3 players and game consoles.
