HP rolls out blade workstations

HP has rolled out the industry's first blade workstation which stores the computer safely away in the datacenter closet. The ProLiant Blade Workstation Solution is stacked vertically in blade chassis cabinets and several dozen can be placed in a standard 19" wide server rack.
IBM to ship Cell-based blade server in Q3

IBM announced that it will begin shipping a new blade-server using the Cell processor in the third quarter of this year. The chip will be made available in the framework of the firm's BladeCenter H family and will aim to accelerate digital animation applications, as well as floating point heavy scientific software.

Intel launches "Sossaman" dual-core blade server processor

Intel announced the third variant of its Yonah processor core. Next to Core Duo and Core Solo, the company now offers the blade server CPU Xeon LV, formerly code-named Sossaman. The chip is Intel's first low-voltage dual-core processor and promises at least twice the energy efficiency of preceding single-core Xeon processors.
IBM rolls out first Cell-based blade server

IBM announced availability of what the company calls the first "generally available" computer system with a Cell processor. While the CPU is best known as the power plant of Sony's upcoming Playstation 3 console, it is marketed as a viable resource in computing-intensive fields, such as the medical, defense, animation, aerospace and oil industries, as well.
