Korean researchers aiming for 100 GB flash memory cards

Flash memory has been rumored to soon hit the limitations of nature, making it impossible for the technology to scale beyond 32 nm or 22 nm structures. Korean researchers now say they have developed 10 nm semiconductors based on carbon nanotubes that could breathe new life into Flash memory cards.

Sometime next year, you may be able to throw out your old memory chips and replace them with new faster and cooler carbon nanotube (CNT) memory. Greg Schmergel, co-founder, president and CEO of Nantero told TG Daily that his company is on track to bring drop-in memory sometime next year.

Batteries provide power for most of our daily gadgets, but they are bulky and must be replaced often. Now, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems (LEES) are studying a new breed of "supercapacitors", which use carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Professors Joel Schindall and John Kassakian, along with Ph.D. candidate Riccardo Signorelli believe the unique properties of the CNTs could help make supercapacitors that could one day let us charge our laptops instantly.
