New CPUs from AMD and Intel
February 23, 1999 – 12:01 PM
We are almost there, the wait for the new microprocessors from AMD and Intel is finally close to an end. Intel's upcoming Pentium III is an upgrade of the well known Pentium II-core with the new 'streaming SIMD extension, and AMD's new K6-3 is nothing but the latest K6-2-core with 256 kB on-die L2-cache running at core-clock. Before we start looking at the scores of those new CPUs, let's first consider what we should expect. -
Two Xeon CPUs Are Better Than One Intel P4 Extreme Platform
May 14, 2004 – 1:00 PM
Who would have thought? A Dual Xeon system is often cheaper and frequently offers higher performance than a Pentium 4 Extreme platform. Our analysis and benchmark tests for Intel's dual-processor E7505/Placer chipset show why. -

Can CPUs Make PCs Faster & Quieter?
September 4, 2007 – 9:01 AM
Until the introduction of fast-and-capable CPUs with low-power requirements, fast and quiet could often pose conflicting goals when building a PC. We put a fast mobile dual-core and a fast desktop quad-core CPU to work in a super-quiet case and measure sound output from both systems to prove that fast and quiet are somewhat simultaneously achievable.

How to Get All 66 MHz Slot 1 CPUs Running 100 MHz
May 14, 1998 – 1:01 PM
I've fiddled around with BX chipset boards and 100 MHz front side bus Pentium II CPUs for quite a few weeks now. Playing around with all these components is one thing, but making you able to understand how it works and making myself feeling confident to write a meaningful article also requires a lot of reading
