AMD has unveiled a new processor brand based on its existing AthlonXP architecture to serve the value PC segment. Available for Socket A and Socket 754, AMD's Sempron matches Intel Celeron D's clockspeeds and prices and, AMD says, out benchmarks the Celeron D.

You never were able to get so much processing power for so little money. AMD releases Athlon 1200, the fastest x86 processor and Duron 800, the most powerful low-cost processor that ever existed. None of the two goes for another superlative in terms of pricing.
AMD Releases Duron 900

The computing power of this new low-cost processor is getting impressively close to the performance leaders from a year ago, the Giga Hertz Pentium III and Athlon CPUs.

The race in the low-cost sector continues. After Intel's amusingly late release of the Celeron 800 at the (exciting?) FSB clock of 100 MHz, AMD is countering with Duron 850. It's no surprise which of the two has the better performance and the more attractive price.
