Yorktown Heights (NY) - IBM said it has developed a silicon broadband optical switch, a key component for the creation of on-chip optical interconnects: The company believes that nanophotonic switches will lead the way to CPU cares that communicate faster with each other while using much less energy.

Caterpillar envisions robotic bulldozers

Robotic bulldozers and other construction equipment could autonomously mine for precious metals or help build future houses. Caterpillar, the famous maker of heavy construction equipment, is developing robotic and remotely-controlled construction vehicles that take advantage of GPS navigation.
